Picked up a founders edition today from the local Microcenter, installed on an existing machine that has had zero trouble in the past and have had nothing but BSOD and crashes. Machine will boot and run fine for 5-10 minutes before crashing. I am stuck and at a loss on what to do next. In order to write this up I pulled the 1080 out and put the old 760 back in, changed nothing, everything works great, no crashes. Hoping someone may have some ideas, at this point I am thinking of just returning the card and waiting for a FTW or SC to show up in stock and trying again then.

Doing no overclocking, plug and play only.
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers multiple times using DDU.
Removed and re-seated card and power.
Tried with precisionXOC, MSI afterburner and without either.

I do not believe it is an issue with current hardware, hardware works fine without the 1080. Hardware list just because:

Asus z97 ar
I7 4790k (not overclocked)
EVGAMEM 32GB 8X4 D3 2400 DIMM C11
Corsair CX850M PSU
2x DELL 34" IPS U3415W (one HDMI one DP since those are the cables I happen to have)
gtx 760

Here is a list of some of the BSOD errors:

Bugcheck code: 0xA (0x191D6730, 0xF, 0x0, 0xFFFFF80345061E5D)
Error: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Bugcheck code: 0x3B (0xC0000005, 0xFFFFF801B94382CE, 0xFFFFD000236F9820, 0x0)
Error: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

Bugcheck code: 0x1E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF961419AAA4C, 0x0, 0x4CE581D0)
Error: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Sounds like a bad card to me. Take it back. Mine acted up straight out of the box once in Windows 10. I had crashing and weird colors with my first FE directly from Nvidia. It would also over heat. Returned it and got another from EVGA. This new card runs perfect.

If you have no problem with the 760 the 1080 is probably defective. Try it in a different computer if you can.

I'd suggest updating your motherboard bios to the latest 2801 bios & doing a clean install of windows onto a separate partition to see if that helps solve the issue.

Tried the card in a second machine, hello blue screens.....

    So I returned the card.

While I was trying to wrangle the manager at Microcenter into putting me on some sort of list or reservation for another card (because of course they are sold out of everything and waiting for next shipment) because they do in store only and no reservations was hoping to get him to do something for the trouble (90 minute round trip, twice). He was going to take my name and do something and just then ...... The guy behind me was returning two unopened strix cards.

EVGA, I love you guys, love your warranty, etc..... but I just want a card, been planning since January to upgrade cards and been patiently waiting for the release in May. Any of the 1080s are overkill for what I do, and while I would prefer the EVGA brand, I am happy to have a new card. In the future I will continue to turn to the EVGA brand for future purchases, sorry it didn't work out this time.

^ Like a whipped pup. I bet his significant other told him to return both after seeing the price. No one in their right mind would be returning those cards brand new. The mark up from scalpers is huge for that particular model. You lucked out big time. Glad you got a working card.
