My system was running great and finally decided to upgrade the CPU's I went for x5670's. Installed them and cant get them to work together. Set them up individually and tested them with the Intel tester and both work 100% by themselves. Connect them together thru jumpers and cant get them to show anything there is no output. Sounds like at least one of your CPUs has at least one duff QPI link.

Can the QPI be turned on or off? They are x5670 and the specs say 2 QPI

No, they cannot be turned off. In dual CPU configuration, one QPI link from each CPU goes to the north bridge, and one QPI goes to the other CPU to facilitate access to the memory connected to the other CPU. If the second QPI link is damaged on the CPU (or the motherboard, e.g. broken trace or bent socket pins), the CPU will still work OK on it's own (nothing to connect to the 2nd QPI), but it will not work with both CPUs installed unless they can both bi-directionally connect to each other.

Is there anyway of testing the GPI's individually? I have run diagnostics on both separately with the Intel diagnostic tool and they both pass individually. .

There is no easy way to test without a known good working CPU and a known good working motherboard.

Very doubtful, but you can eliminate bad RAM as a possibility by testing the RAM with a single CPU, then using two known good DIMMs, one in slot 0 on each CPU. If the 2nd CPU doesn't show up but both CPUs show up when tested individually, it is near complete certainty you have a fault in the 2nd QPI connection between the CPUs.

They worked with the x5620 pair and they where matched. This x5660 are not number matched would that be a prolem. I thought they have to match to be a married pair?

I went ahead and dropped 1 Stick of ram (4gb ea) for each cpu and they still work independently but not together.

As long as they are the same stepping (and if they are the same model they generally all are the same stepping), they should work fine. It doesn't matter if they were made on different dates in different factories. It sounds very much like you have at least one duff CPU.

I repaired CPU 0's receiver mount , there were 3 pins that where bent over. I must of accidently bent them when I took the old CPU out. I straightened them out. This took about 3 hours. Have to be very careful not to break them off.

Thank you for explaining. People will check their pins.

If the problem was the bent pins and your RAM got very hot very quickly, I am amazed you didn't burn anything out. You got very lucky.
