Hello all,
 
I just did a new build last night on a Z170 FTW mb. Specs are:
 
MB: EVGA Z170 FTW
CPU: i7 6700k
RAM: G.SKILL TridentZ Series 32GB F4-3200C14D-32GTZ
HD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 500GB MZ-N5E500BW
GPU: EVGA 980ti FTW
PSU: Corsair RMx 750x
 
It was a new build so I initially installed Windows 7 from a DVD drive (no longer attached) onto a regulard 3.5" HD (no longer attached), and then got the upgrade to windows 10 last night just under the wire. After I got the product code, I powered down, removed the DVD drive and 3.5" drive and installed windows directly onto the m.2 drive with no issues. I can get into windows 10 and everything appears stable so far.
 
The issue I am having is I get an A2 code every single boot. I got it initially during my first power on and windows 7 installs, and still get it every boot going into windows 10. I see the A2 code for a few seconds and then the system continues to boot into windows. 
 
Any ideas? I'm glad I can get into windows, but I don't like the idea of having an error and not knowing what is causing it.

    A2 is not an error code. It is a notification that it is searching for a boot drive. You can speed up the process by disabling all optional boot drives other than the one that holds your Windows installation.

    If I disable everything but the m.2 (boot) drive in the boot priority, should the A2 code disappear at post?

    It won't disappear but it won't stay up as long. IDK if your BIOS is similar to mine but at the bottom of the page where I select my boot drive up top there is a space near the bottom that lists all boot options and every single drive in my PC was listed there as a possible boot drive. I went through the list and disabled all but my RAID array with Windows 7 on it. Mine used to hang there for almost 15 seconds before it continued to POST and proceed to boot into Windows. As I mentioned earlier it is NOT an error but just a notification of where the POST process is during powerup.

    Thanks guys. I just assumed it was an error code. I disabled all the other boot options and it seems to load a bit faster. It was fast before, but I just didn't want an error and it turns out I was mistaken about it being an error in the first place.
