1) Have EVGA GTX 660 SC Signature 2 (2GB VRAM) with artifacts and freezing/crashing whenever it reaches BOOST speeds, MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision can't keep the card from reaching those speeds (a recurrent problem, tried all kinds of settings, except voltage).

2) Temperature graph doesn't show any spikes or abnormal changes and stays at 60C or below, mostly below.

3) Strong suspicion this card is closer to stock with a higher boost speed than it can do.  Currently, when it reaches 1,071MHz I get artifacts and freezing/crashing.

4) Tried many EVGA and NVIDIA drivers, currently at 340.52, but no change.

5) Running Windows 7 64-bit, 750W PSU, 8GB RAM, i5 CPU.  Nothing else is as demanding or shares power with the card.

6) Always did this since I have it, but once a game works it can stay stable, problem is when there's any change in settings, or start to play a new game is hell all over again.

How can I make sure the card doesn't BOOST the core clock beyond is normal range (no BOOST speeds)?

Seems like it's defective best bet is to RMA it

only other thing you can do is try underclocking it with Precision, unless you've already done that, it'll lower the boost clock speed by as much as you underclock it. that said, you shouldn't have to underclock it, so you should be able to get a replacement easy enough.

Anyway to answer your question, there isn't a way to disable the boosting/clock adjusting that is done with the GPU boost feature. (well you can force it to run at max boost speed all the time I think, but not force it to never run that way)

You can disable boost with a vBIOS modification.

    Thanks for the responses.

The card is still under warranty, so RMA would be the way to go since it is unusable for games.

I realized it can't even reach the stated base clock speed for this card without crashing, seems like it has to stay below 1,072MHz to run stable.

I activated the onboard Intel graphics (i5) and it plays the same games without problems.  Never seriously considered onboard graphics before, but it works, at least until I get another card.

I hate to see you suffering with your current card as it sounds like is out of control and a replacement would be in order. When you talk to the rep for the RMA suggest that because of the number of issues you would appreciate a replacement. All the best to you.

I set the PCI Express Link State Power Management to Off and only Power Saving I've seen in BIOS is S3.

But recently when it started with the artifacts (with a new old game) it got so bad that even the desktop was affected after the game crashed (first time I've seen this).  The screen was almost all orange, even when restarting the machine (2-3 times) the screen was showing green artifacts during the BIOS post and when the desktop appeared it was still orange.

Had to replace the NVIDIA driver with another version to fix it.

This card really pissed me off in a bad way.  Returned it to EVGA today (RMA).  Next time won't wait this long to return a defective item, wasn't sure about the length of the warranty or if it was a driver issue.

They are sending a card via UPS Ground, it takes 8 days or 6 business days to get here.

I sent my card via USPS Priority Mail (insured) and it only took 3 days.

On Youtube and forums I see problems with broken cards and noisy fans with EVGA RMA replacement cards and in my experience UPS has delivered broken boxes or not delivered at all on several occasions, so is hard to trust UPS Ground for a video card.

This is not the case for Fedex or USPS in my experience.
