I've just kept all of my cases with the keys in them. But now I've gone 98% digital and really only buying physical if there is a limited edition. So its much easier now that I don't have to worry about keys anymore.

Most games now are digitally distributed which eases the accidental loss of keys but for older games which I still have laying around I tape the key to the inside of the DVD holder or the outside. That's old school but it works for me.

Personally, I scan the codes into an Adobe file which are from CDs or other paper forms. I also print the e-mail and all electronic code keys into an Adobe document. I then keep them on my system. I also back up my system regularly to a personal cloud device. I am data paranoid and have lost many things like that, so I have printed everything into an electronic format and have saved it, as well as backed it up. Not sure most would do that, but I do this with all items saved on any of my rigs. Since storage is do cheap, I have multiple copies on my rigs of all these things. I guess I am like the paper hoarder, but with 1s and 0s.

For any games I get keys to, like humble bundles etc... too, I have a word file on a external hdd that doesn't get used much and a backup behind that on a 2gb sandisk cruzer too. The external hdd is a usb 2.0 old 120gb Iomega IDE in the all aluminum cases.

I've always kept a text file with my codes, but I'm guilty of not backing up as often as I should. At least there isn't much reason to buy physical disks anymore, so I've not added any codes in a long while.

I know this isn't exactly on topic, but it can go with the digital storage of keys idea. Anybody know how to make a disk into an install? I would like to get rid of my older media and put the install onto my PC so I can install faster and just store the install on a hard drive along with the key.

You can also scan the keys and keep a picture of them in photobucket, dropbox, etc. However if your PC breaks down giving you an inability to go onto the internet then you'll need the key somewhere that you can access it if the PC that broke was the only internet based PC/internet device you have.

Some years ago, there used to a database like application build for CD key storage which I used for a couple of years. I believe the software came with a PC powerplay magazine back in the day... The software is still completely relevant, as new physical software still come with CD keys, or if companies were smarter (and some are), they use an online validation service via customer accounts. The only one I found after a few minutes looking was here: - http://www.planetsourcecode.com/vb/scripts/ShowCode.asp?txtCodeId=34219&lngWId=1 It seems to have everything you want, but I haven't used it before.

I forgot about that one! I used it for work at my last place of business, it's fantastic and should meet all small information management needs. You can also save and encrypt the database file and store it on the cloud. :)
