Not just EVGA, but ASUS, Gigabyte, basically all desktop motherboards for Intel X58 are completely off the market. If there is any problem with the RMA'ed motherboard I sent in earlier this week, then I'm a goner. Is it just that it's been 5 years, or was was X58 completely eclipsed by LGA 2011? New LGA 1150 and 1156 motherboards are still sold new, so it seems.

The 1156 that are still new are old stock the same with 2011...

The X58 platform came out in 2008/2009 and was discontinued in 2012 for the X79/Socket 2011 platform. It's now 2015 and mainstream platforms are much faster than X58, time to move on.

The X58 was probably one of the best desktop platforms ever introduced by Intel. Like everyone has mentioned it's time to move on. You wouldn't expect an automobile made 7 years ago to still be made today. It has been superseded by a newer model of the same car or an entirely different car.

X58 was never the low end platform, and because intel now retires sockets every 2 years, there isnt a large need to keep a supply running. Only legacy socket I still see new boards being made for is Socket 775 and that is simply to do with the systems are still in wide use, and the compaines can still make money. Not alot of money to be made in building x58 boards however

There is always the EVGA marketplace, if you have issues. You just need 50 posts to gain access.  Other hardware sites would probably have something used. I do see several boards available here. But ,I bet EVGA will help you out.

Thanks for the input everyone. I figured it was just an issue of time, but I wanted to be certain. When I built my computer, I had a 10-year plan before building a new one, and that I'd start playing around with overclocking at the 5-year mark. The 5-year mark came, and my power supply melted into my motherboard :\ Never buy XION power supplies.

X58 was nice for it's time... but most of them didn't even have SATA III. After using a SSD for my OS and games, I refuse to go back to regular HDD for those uses. Also, that PSU issue was known when you use multiple video cards. That is why they made this:

Mine has SATA III and it works... but I screwed up the boot loader for Windows 7 a while back where it became impossible to have the operating system plugged into the SATA III ports, because they had lower boot priority than SATA II ports.

I also had to go through driver hell trying to get the right version of the Marvell drivers to stop the SATA III ports from causing blue screens... so yeah it was a headache.

Whenever I hear about someone buying a 1 TB hard drive and using it as the OS partition, I kind of cringe. It just seems natural that you'd have an SSD for the OS and HDDs for data (preferably in a RAID 1 array! Mirroring saved my data when one of my drives failed last year). I actually ran a 64 GB SSD as my OS disk for a few years back when SSDs were much more expensive, but now I use that and my OS disk for my most important games, and my HDD for all my low-performance games.

Is there an article somewhere on this PSU issue? I'd like to know more about it.

If my RMA is successful, I'll go back to SLIx2. Would you suggest that I buy an EVGA Power Boost then? Or would I need two? This is the new power supply I'm using:

I ran SSD's on my X58 for years.  I ran Corsair Force2 series SSD's, SATA2, and it was rather fast, is my Dark and Samsung 840 Evo's faster, yes, most definitely, but SSD's were quite quick on the X58's also.  And the Intel ICH10R was still faster than the Marvell SATA3 controller unless you only had 1 drive on the Marvell, with 2 on it the Intel was better as it ran out of bandwidth.  It was the VERY first SATA3 controller when we integrated it at the end of 2009, so that was growing pains there.

I do miss my X58 platform as well, personally, I found it easier to OC, the methodology just meshed with my brain better for some reason.  But mine died.....sad day, always sad to lose a still solid performer, but my X58 went  the way of my 8800 Ultra Hydro  :(

If you do upgrade, I think you will be impressed.  But glad to hear you are up and running currently.  Power booster is handy for SLI on motherboards that do not have a secondary power jack for PCIE.  Also, for the PSU I would recommend one of these for the power area you are looking for.  http://www.evga.com/Products/ProductList.aspx?type=10&family=Power+Supplies&chipset=1000+Watts

Yeah, I didn't mean to sound like you can't run a SSD on SATA II. I mentioned it because my EVGA E758 didn't have SATA III and it would heavily bottleneck the latest SSD's out. Mentioned the SSD's as a suggestion if the OP has not taken that path yet to include it in his platform change. I doubt the OP will get a X58 replacement in his RMA. I suspect he will have to move to whatever board he gets for replacement if the RMA goes through and they don't void it due to physical damage.

Also, i'd suggest checking out this thread:
    http://forums.evga.com/24pin-ATX-power-plug-meltdowns-Need-user-data-from-unaffected-computers-m749507.aspx

It's an old one, but I remember the issue from back in the day... It caused a lot of ruckus.

Another thing... Power supplies have changed greatly since 2010. A 1000w is overkill for most set-ups, even SLI ones. The only reason I have a Seasonic X-1250w is because I was surfing craigslist and I happened to find it for $80 lol

Gotcha   Yeah modern SSD's will bottleneck, but still would be vastly faster than a platter drive.

Oh yeah, melted power connectors, that was a long time ago, thankfully that issue is a thing of the past, I'm sure someone has caused it since, btu that normally involves people messing with things they shouldn't and/or a catastrophic component failure.

Managed to collect all four of the classified mobos (E759,E760/761, E762, and the E770) and will soon put them to use in a large case mod project.  X58 is by far my favorite platform to date.
