True you don't need a team to fold... but you know... a team makes it more fun.  Just saying.  Good luck!

I think a lot of people can't hit that first tier. Not why I do it.

With my mediocre card output I would be lucky just to hit tier one now so I think my days with EVGA and their products are over. Everybody has to move on to different things sooner or later.

Sooo lemme get this straight, because you can't meet the new tiers, you're going to stop buying EVGA's products as well as cease your folding efforts?

logic...ain't it grand!

With a pair of 460's and a 3770K running 24/7 i don't think i will make it.  :(   I am getting 40K-60K ppd and that's cutting it CLOSE.

Wife just checked electric bill...$500 for electric.  Phew!!!  Can't tell her two 480 HydroCoppers and an I7 960 are killing me at 24/7 folding.  Guess it's time to upgrade to a less power hungry and more PPD effective setup.  It'll pay for itself in electric savings (unless I stop folding....no thanks).

Re: EVGA Folding Year 7 2014/05/26 10:37:30 (permalink)
I had a GTX 570 and a i7 960 pumping out 45k ppd, but that wasn't going to make the cut. Luckily I was ready for a GPU upgrade with the newer games coming out, and I had enough in folding bucks to (after 2 years of folding) to get a nice discount on a new GTX 770 w/ACX. Now it ALONE puts out 90k ppd. I shut down the other rig and now just play games on it. This rig is WAY better.

And to echo one of the previous posters on this. I fold with EVGA because of the promotion, not because I have to or because I get "paid" to fold. I was folding on my own before I found EVGA. I would still fold on my own even if EVGA shut down this program.

I feel that if corporate EVGA cared about this program like some of us do, they would have lowered the numbers when all the people cried out about the HUGE jump in numbers. This just goes to show that the managers @EVGA don't care about this program. If they didn't see a profit margin in it, they wouldn't have it. Plus it gives them a feather in their cap for the philanthropic community.

You don't have to tell her that. That system isn't going to cost you $500/mo in electric. I would be looking at your heating and air system. That and your lights are the biggest contributors to a high electric bill. At most it should only be about $200 unless you have a house bigger than say 3,000sqft.

In the winter with windows open Heating off while Folding my elect bill is between $480 and $500.
In the late Spring Summer and early Fall my elect is between $880 and $1200 a month, Excel is charging 3 time the cost for tear 2 and almost 4 times the cost for tear 3. Tear 1 is 500 KW a month. I have never seen less then 800 KW on my bill as a low.
So the cost to Fold if you are under Excel Energy your cost is almost if not more then most mortgages while they charge the 3 Tear Cost for Elect and to top that off the charge double if not triple for Gas in the winter. No Tax Write Off For A Single Folder At Home but Corporate Folders can write of all the cost for Folding. I Fold to Fold I do not Fold for the EVGA Bucks they are only a Plus to Fold nothing more.

Holy moley man!! I regularly use 1k-1200kwh and only pay $100-$200 a month. But then I live in Texas and electric has been de-regulated. Open competition has really lowered the price down here.

We have only Once Choice Excel Energy and that is it.

Power is 14 cents / kwh where I live, no way I can justify running multiple servers enough to generate 1.5 million...
Not all of us upgrade our gear religiously every year either.  My five year desktop is an old Asus Rampage 3, 24gig ram, i7/960 and EVGA GTX760 runs nicely with SSD and will continue to serve me just fine for the next two or three years.

I just started up folding on my 760 FTW, seems to be on par for at least the first tier (crossing fingers). Either way, I'm doing this for my father who just got diagnosed with a rare oral cancer. He is the one that taught me to build, love, and care for my PC. It's the least I can do.

So I quit for a month and a half from folding because I was having problem with my system. I was only getting about 50000 ppd. I installed the new software they have and started it back up and now am getting 90000 ppd not sure what I did differently.

Check on Monday all will be fine. You will find other posts about this.
I seems to do this from Friday - Sunday so it is normal, sort of.

There is an entire thread dedicated to the issue of negative points. It is stated that it was just a bad transfer and is usually fixed fairly quick, so it is nothing to worry about.

Can someone explain me how this folding thing works. Im new in business and dont know a **** about this. Firstly, I´ve noticed that the cores matter a lot in points, what I get. When I first time lauched the FAHcontrol I got a 17 core very often and got a lot of points. In a last few days I´ve got a 0x15 core and 0xa4 core. If you are experienced user you know that I´m not happy with the points what I get from those cores.

Is there something what I can do to get 17core all the time or even 18core? I havent got any 18core yet.  In a signature you find my setup and the points what Ive made allmost 247 folding.

Looks to me that you're pulling in appropriate points for your hardware. CPU (A4/A5) projects definitely don't bring in much points on a single CPU setup. (And BigAdv is gone (? - or nearly gone). FYI - BigAdv brought extra "bonus" points to setups that could complete CPU projects quickly - hence the reason you'll see (or USED to see) some people running 4 processor setups.)

Anymore, the biggest provider of PPD is GPU projects (Core 15, 17, 18, etc. - with Core 18 not being exactly "sought after" on Maxwell architecture GPU's due to immature video drivers.) - However, so long as you're running the "Advanced" client option on your GPU folding slots, you MAY find that you pull more Core 17/18 units (don't quote me, as it all just boils down to the luck of the draw.) In closing, there is nothing YOU (We/Us) can do to ensure a constant delivery of ONLY a particular work unit.

Hey EVGA_RobB, what is in store for "Year 8"???  I guess that will be starting soon.

I really appreciate the support that EVGA gives to the team, and most of us support EVGA back.  I am very new to this Folding thing (only been at it for a couple of months).  But, I have noticed that our team stats show a spike in production in the first week of the month, and tapers off through-out the rest of the month.  This is certainly from people jumping in and getting their 1.5 mill and then shutting it down for the month.  I have seen several individual examples of this.  May I suggest adding a couple of more tiers of payouts, even if they continue to double each tier (750K, 1.5M, 3M, 6M), or something like that.  This may encourage more people to hang in there longer per month.  I know it is not going to pay for a person's electric bill, but it may help out.  I also realize that is is not EVGA's obligation to subsidize the team's efforts, but it sure is nice.

I don't see them doing a 4 tier system unless it was 2.5 bucks per tier. The increase in tier points will be based on what they feel an average gaming rig can pull in 20ish days. Most likely we will see tier 1 at 1-1.5 mil and tier 2 at 2-3 mil maybe more. It need to be set so most everyone can hit tier 1 easily with hardware from the last couple years, tier 2 set for more current hardware . You have to keep in mind this is a promotion to get people to buy more EVGA hardware. If you can get 10 bucks from folding on a 4+ year old GPU they wont sell more cards
