ArchangelUriel I can see your train of thought but I'm still disappointed (not necessarily of EVGA). Having an older 970 SSC I'm going to step-up to the new SSC and maybe buy the backplate when it becomes available.
That's exactly what I'm about to do as well. I mean EVGA simply can't justify the €399 price tag on the new FTW, considering the SSC sells for €55 less. Unless they're going to charge north of €55 for the backplate of course... Thanks again EVGA for the option to step up but: €399 is not okay.

Price difference is way too much.. Seen GTX 980 Strix for 499€ sales so not a change for FTW+ Too bad 499 is too much for GPU to me, but now I'm on my way to get birthday present for myself: New SSC. Dont really know why would I even need the backplate tho :P

For my opinion 380-390e would be OK for new FTW because backplate. And it's much better card than 970 Strix. No problem with VRM temp, higher clock. 970 Strix is OC only 64 MHz, FTW+ 166 MHz... Among 166MHz overclocked samples worse cards are removed and more chance for even higher OC and closer performance for GTX980. You see how many time ASUS had to fix VRM temps but they didn't because overclocked cards are not their prime target.

It's not always like that, probably price dictate some estimates about demands. If reason of problems in first series is known and fixed with new improvements price should be same in euro as in dollars or if products are really expensive, I mean about 500-600-1000$ than something little under... I bought GTX780Ti K|NGP|N for nice 765e in same time when in USA price was 859$. That was more than fair from EVGA and price first 6 months was same.

I remember Jacob saying the FTW+ pricing would be "aggressive". well, pity that it's only aggressive against the own customers and no way near competitive. even if I step-up to the FTW+ your handling of the whole 900 series situation makes you loose my trust in you EVGA!!! never again am I going to waste my money and time on your products...

I don't know what is problem with previous series, if your card is OK than no reason to step-up. I mean clock is same that's most important... If you have some serious problem than RMA card, if not previous GTX970 FTW give you absolutely same performance. I don't like when they change something after short time but if something could be improved... I think situation is not shine with all GTX970 only EVGA change faster, but maybe and others replace with new revisions.

I tend to disagree. Remember that many dealers sell EVGA products below the cost of what you see on the EVGA website. Compare EVGA European prices to its competitors and you'll see that prices are close.

and what about the ones who buy directly from EVGA EU, rjohnson11? is there anything that can justify a price tag of 399,90€ for the FTW+? (except profit, profit, profit..) especially while the SSC is just 345,90€.

There is more than just the backplate to the FTW+ above the SSC - dB Inverter – dB Noise Inverter turns fans off below 60C, generating 0dB of noise during idle!
- Memory MOSFET - Cooling Plate Memory MOSFET Cooling Plate reduces MOSFET temps by 47% and Memory by 14%
- Optimized Power Target - Optimized Power Target offers 33% more power over reference.
- Straight Heat Pipes - Straight Heat Pipes reduce GPU temperature by almost 5C!
- QSD BIOS – Quick Switch Dual BIOS allow you to switch to secondary BIOS with the flick of a switch.
I would say this as I've bought one :)

Spending money on an RMA just expecting that the lottery gives the grand prize (a non whining card that can remain at base clock) rjohnson11

I actually paid more for my card from a store than what is listed on evga's eu store johnerz There is more than just the backplate to the FTW+ above the SSC

This "lost" customers went over to other brands and see the price difference between US and EU - its the same EU pays more than US. Its not just hardware. Did you ever ordered something directly from us? Shipping + Tax + Customs? Maybee they have to buffer the the massifly returned cards because everyone is crying on CW and try to find the best chip - return cards over cards playing lottery sahafiec I remember Jacob saying the FTW+ pricing would be "aggressive". well, pity that it's only aggressive against the own customers and no way near competitive. even if I step-up to the FTW+ your handling of the whole 900 series situation makes you loose my trust in you EVGA!!! never again am I going to waste my money and time on your products...
To solve this problem - dont sell GTX 9XX Cards? Ok then you may wont able to buy any EVGA product in the future. Go over to nvidia and blame them its not 100% EVGAs fault. Go and buy other cards and start crying on there forums about same or other problems. i understand the anger but maybe i also see it from the brands side. PS: The FTW is 1€ above the FTW+ ?!

I bought a GTX 970 FTW in November, does it make sense to step up to the FTW+? Does it have less coil whine? What is the real difference here?

FTW++ will be released around March. The specifications of the new & improved FTW++ are:- Even more "agressive" pricing
- Fanless Design - No more fan noise and / or coil whine at all thanks to the complete redesign without fans.
- Full copper Memory MOSFET cooling - Which reduces MOSFET temps by 88% and Memory by 40%
- Re-Optimized Power Target - Optimized Power Target offers 66% more power over reference.
- 12 Straight Fully Copper Heat Pipes - 12 Straight Fully Copper Heat Pipes reduce GPU temperature by almost 18C!
- QSQ BIOS - Quick Switch Quadruple Bios allows you to switch to any 4 BIOS settings (excellent for overclockers)
- GPU / Memory boost - GPU is boosted with a massive 80 Mhz, while memory received a 120 Mhz boost.
- Hand-picked GPU's - Say goodbye to lower ASIC's qualities; only 78% and up!
