Hey guys!
May I ask for your help? I suddenly got an issue with my GTX 680 after I installed the latest Nvidia update.

I assembled my Rig last April 2013, played all the games that I wanted in max settings without any issues. I was using a Corsair H100i for CPU cooling for my first build, then after that, I decided to go with custom liquid cooling. Most of the time, I play Dota 2 on max settings while recording my gameplay using OBS (Open Broadcasater Software). I have been doing that for more than 17 months without any issues. Then, a week ago (if I remembered correctly), I installed an update from GeForce experience for the GTX 680. After doing so, my monitors shuts down every time a clash is happening. I have never, ever experienced this before. The issue is probably not the GPU overheating because the first time when I went into custom AiO, I never had this issue and I was just 1 240mm radiator to cool down the CPU and GPU. Now I am using 2 240mm radiator, push/pull config, before I installed the update, this issue never appeared. The first time it happened, I just shrugged it off, and then it became so frequent that I could not play Dota 2 anymore in max settings because it keeps on crashing. I tried to play the game without recording it, still the same result. Then I noticed, every time there is too much stuff happening on the game, monitor turns black, turns itself off as if it could not detect any signal from the GPU, but my whole rig is still on. I opened up MSI Kombustor and tried to run a test, and I noticed, the TDP goes up 100% and then the monitor shuts down. I am not sure, but is it maybe a driver issue? I tried to install older versions of nvidia drivers, but I still get the same result. I tried to uninstall and clean install Precision X, still the same. Any ideas?

Specs of my system:
EVGA GTX 680 2Gb
Asus P8Z77i-Deluxe
Intel i7 3770k 4.1 Ghz (not OC'd)
Corsair Vengeance LP 16Gb
Samsung Evo 120gb SSD
Seagate Barracuda 3TB
Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Custom water cooling loop

Uninstall Precision and then perform a Custom (Advanced) clean install of the last NVIDIA driver that worked for you, selecting only to install PhysX along with the driver..Reboot even if not prompted to do so..Clean install Precision again.

Alternatively, you can try using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to uninstall the driver, all the optional driver components, prevent Windows from auto-installing a driver, clean up Windows Driver Store and the registry, and create a Restore Point before installing a driver.

Go from there and see how things work..Make sure to read the driver's Release Notes for issues that might affect your system/game(s)..The max GPU temp for a GTX 680 is 98C, but could have problems before that.

    Thanks for the reply!
I did the steps and methods that you mentioned, but unfortunately, it's still the same. I tried to run the Kombustor GF OC Test (GL4), as soon as I hit the run button, the TDP goes straight up to 100%, then my display shut's down. I am really not that knowledgeable when it comes to overclocking stuff, but I noticed from the Precision X that the GPU voltage goes up from 887 to 1124. Is that normal?

Yes, that's normal GPU Boost behavior..You might try running without OSD enabled in Precision, or just uninstall Precision altogether and try it, maybe try MSI Afterburner instead..There's always System Restore to try, back before you started having the problem.

I actually did try to run the test without the Precision installed in my pc. Still the same. But I'm not sure if i uninstall the precision correctly. I did the uninstall via control panel. I was looking for a uninstaller for it, couldn't find any.

Try reseating the GPU & power cables.

I doubt that the problem is the cables since my I built my system inside a desk. There is no way that the cables are gonna get toppled or moved. I'll still gonna try..

Still the same. This never happened before until the latest driver update from Nvidia. I tried uninstalling all the drivers earlier, then installing an older version of the driver, it was still doing the same thing. It's always the TDP. Once it hits 100% and up, my display just dies. The weird part is that there are no dialog boxes that pops out to say what kind of error the system encountered.

What happens when you set the power target to max inside precision then try to run the test again?

Still the same. It goes up to whatever max power target and then BSOD.

Just to make sure a software conflict isn't happening try performing a clean boot of windows then try running the test again.

Tried a clean boot, still the same. Is it safe to install the oldest nvidia driver that I could find? I was wondering if I could do that.

I think it's time to RMA the card. You could try re-installing the OS on another drive to see if it helps before RMA'ing.

This sucks. This never happened before. I might try to do a complete re-format, and go from there. And can I still RMA my card? I mean I purchased this card from newegg.ca back in april 2013. I played BF3, BF4, WatchDogs, Metro Last Light, Dota 2, Shadow of Mordor in max or high settings with this card and I never had an issue before. :(

Yes, you should still be able to RMA it. The card has a 3 year warranty as long as the part number for the card ends in -KR.

Formatted the whole system but I am still getting the same issue. This is just stupid. All of this just for a driver update.... :(

Lemme try that version of driver. Do you have a link for it? I am using Windows 8 64Bit by the way if that helps.

Still the same. Look at this screenshot I took last May 2014, My TDP was only at 12%, using the same stress test from MSI Kombustor.

Running Prime95 and doing the same stress test, the display never died on me while doing this.

I just received an email about the RMA, and I noticed this:

    "
Your EVGA product should arrive in the original factory condition and must be free of physical damage or modification. Products received with physical damage (bent CPU socket pins, broken components, any damage to the PCB, water damage, rust, cigarette residue, scratches, dents, etc), missing parts, missing serial number or factory identification labels removed, defaced, damaged, altered or made illegible will go under review by the RMA department.
After review it will be determined if the product can be accepted for the return, if warranty has been voided or if there will be additional service charges to return the product to its original factory condition before a replacement is issued.http://www.evga.com/support/warranty/"

Does the "free of physical damage and MODIFICATION" part includes changing the stock card cooler to water block? I am using a custom liquid cooling system right now.

Yes, you need to put the stock air cooler back onto the card before sending it in.

You need to remove your cooling block and install the cooler that came with it along with anything else that came with the card.

Thanks for the replies guys! I got a final question, I am currently filling out a shipping form for the RMA using UPS, in the form, the "Phone number" and "Contact name" is a mandatory field but in the RMA email that I received, there is no name for contact and phone number. Any ideas? I am no sure if this is allowed to be posted here so I erased out the address detail of the EVGA RMA department.
