Chevy is always the best at everything.

Let's just remember that Ford released the fastest GT500 (most torque and horsepower from a factory car) first then Chevy and Dodge followed with their models.

Shelby***  And...  It took Ford what, 45 years to make 300hp in their Mustang GT?  Yeah okay.

Lot of Ford "Hiney hurt" going on in a Chevy thread, but this is just like the track...  And the street, nothing new to see here people.

What GT500 are you referring to? The first GT500 was built by Shelby, not Ford. If you're talking about the 662HP GT500 offered by Ford right now, it was not the first "most torque and horsepower from a factory car" as far as Ford, Chevy and Dodge are concerned. The Camaro ZL1 came out with 580HP before the 662HP GT500. Then there is also the Corvette ZR1 with 638HP and the Dodge Viper with 640HP that came out before the GT500.

It only won because the Mustang and a few other cars that would have embarrassed it are not in the testing. These embarrassing "Look we won" type of praises are meaningless when half the competition is not in it...

The Mustang? lololol and what model of Mustang would have beaten the the Z/28? One car that should have been there is the Corvette Stingray Z06, but it wasn't ready, they also invited others that declined and in the video they made the chicken sound when mentioning that part lol.

The GT500 would beat it especially the Super Snake GT500. But they did not put it on the list because motor trend sucks and their opinions dont matter. Motor trend is like the mainstream for the car world like the Wall Street Journal is for news. They both are mainstream and we all know mainstream sucks and its bias. I think the car of the year should be a damn car that majority of middle class and low class people can buy and that is the most practical in everyday life. Not these mid range "super cars" that the majority of the masses cant ever own.  I am sure the majority of the people on these forums cant even afford a $45,000 sports car. At least Motor Trend got one thing right with the VW Golf being a winner of something. Its a great car I owned one myself(very first car by the way 2004 R32 Golf). Its pretty affordable practical sports car for the masses due to it being in mid 30Ks and its a hatchback.

The GT500 would not have beat the Z/28, no way, no how. Super Snake is not a production car and I still doubt it would have beat the Z/28. You talk about a $45k mark, well the GT500 is $67k and I don't even want to know the price of a Super Snake.

Once again "the machine that best blends the emotion behind driving, the one that's most rewarding on the road and most engaging on the track"., it was the Z/28.

Ahhh yes way the GT500 will beat it. You just dont want to admit it. Face the facts Kram. The GT500 has 662Hp out of its 5.8L engine and 631 pounds of torque. Lets not forget that its supercharged and has 14 pounds of boost with that supercharger and the camaro aint getting any of it. The Camaro has a cute 505hp out a big ass 7.0L engine and 481 pounds of torque. The only advantage that the camaro has is that its a cute 30 pounds lighter and a bit thicker tires. O ya the gearing on the GT500 is a hell of a lot better too. So therefore the Camaro gets owned. Maybe thats why Motor Trend did not put it on the list because they know a lot out there can beat it like the GT500 and Dodge Charger Hell Cat.

The GT500 doesn't even beat the ZL1 in driving in all the comparisons I've seen. Would you like me to pull up the videos on that? The Z/28 would smack the GT500 back to the stone age where that car belongs. It's not on par with the ZL1 or the Z/28. All that horsepower doesn't mean squat if the car can't handle it with it's suspension and brakes. I could also bring up a video on the Super Snake where the brakes shredded on the car during testing. Shelby charges you $40k to turn a GT500 into a Super Snake and it freaking breaks! That car is junk compared to the ZL1 and Z/28. When Ford gets the GT350 on the road, then lets talk best driving car.

Charger Hellcat? Come on a 4 door? It's a strait line wonder and that's it. Same goes for the Challenger Hellcat. Neither car could rule the road or track like a Z/28 can.

Kram just give it a rest your being ridicules. You keep trying to make excuses now. I too can bring videos up of camaros having such catastrophic failures so no point in pulling that card. Also dont anyone even try to do the retard comparison with handling and how the camaro can beat the GT500 in a circuit race. Its a muscle car people and we are talking about straight line drag in which ALL muscle cars are meant for. So horsepower and torque does mean everything when your drag racing which I must reiterate, that is what muscle cars are meant for. I am sure everyone knows muscle cars suck at handling too. Maybe the reason Ford toned it down a bit and made a GT350 because they got tired in beating chevy's but all day long.   The Super Snake is not garbage your just mad that its that awesome! I admit that its a rip off to pay so much for a car like that but it sure does get the job done in whooping both chevy and dodge.

This thread is about the "Best Drivers Car", not straight line racing. What you brought to this thread has nothing to do with being the "Best Drivers Car". As for straight line performance the Challenger Hellcat eats up the GT500. Muscle cars aren't just about straight line drag racing anymore, hence the Mustang Laguna Seca, Mustang Track Pack, Camaro ZL1, 1LE and Z/28. Get with the times and out of the stone age bud. Stop crying that Ford can't compete on the the track with the Camaro.

I'm also looking forward to the smack down the 2016 Camaro will lay on the new Mustang.

Ya its motor trends opinion kido. This whole best drivers car means nothing but to them and their big mainstream handlers. You act as if what they say dictates the whole world of the car culture in ratings of what car is good and what is not. Stop complaining and crying that the camaro sucks man just face it. Muscle cars are meant for the drag strip not circuit racing.  You keep doing a retarted comparison of going around in a circle with a muscle car. They are good in going in a straight line  so why on Earth would anyone want to enter lap racing with cars like a GTR, BMW, Porsche, and Audi by getting their butts handed to them. Like I said get your self a tuner or a BMW or Audi if you want to race in a circle. Trust me you will do a hell of a lot better than using a straight line car. You cant argue with me there because its what they are meant for so cut the chase with "modern times thingy". Its just another excuses you try to pull to up one me in this debate.  But I do agree with you that the Hellcat eats the GT500 up thats for sure. But the Super Snake beats the Hell cat. Of course chevy has to come out with the 2016 camaro to make up for its losses over a 2014 mustang and a 2015 Dodge LOL. So therefore I win the debate that the GT500 beats the camaro z28.

Wow! You really have no idea of how good the Z/28 is on the track, even compared to BMW, Audi and Porsche. I'm just flabbergasted at your post.

Muscle cars from the late 60's early 70's are meant for the drag strip. The Muscle cars of today do it all, with the Camaro Z/28 doing it the best right now. Oh I remember when the 2010 Camaro first came out and how Mustang lovers called it a pig in the corners. The shoe is on the other foot now, so Mustang fans change their tune to straight line performance, funniest stuff I have read. Don't forget Ford is the one who wanted to compete with BMW with the Mustang in handling. Now they can't beat the Camaro in handling lol.

I was talking about the 2011 GT500 which chevy had no answer to in 2011. Let's keep this comparison between the Camaro & Mustang. Corvette is not a pony car. Viper is also not a pony car. Let's also remember Ford started the pony car class. Chevy followed soon after Ford released their mustang.

Ford had no answer to the 2012 Camaro ZL1, so? The Mustang was a super success upon it's launch, why wouldn't Chevy go after that action? It doesn't mean that the Mustang is better because it came out first. Matter of fact I think Chevy kept spanking Ford with the Camaro every since.

Close, but it was the Plymouth Barracuda that came out two weeks before the Mustang.

Yep, you're right. Dodge is now owned by a foreign country though.

Wow! You really have no idea of how good the Z/28 is on the track

This would be my problem with calling the Z/28 the best drivers car. It is a track car and nothing more. It is not something you want to take anywhere but the track. Everything else on the list is something you can live with every day but not the Z/28 and the price....no just no

Well, the fact that it can be registered, inspected and driven on the streets, one could speculate, "If you can do it, why not?"  Every day people drive more intense vehicles on the road lol

I think the impressive part is how everyone who has published a review on the Z28, they all claim that it is very well mannered on the street.

Most fun to drive, most rewarding, best car of the bunch on the track, all of this with great street mannerisms and a apparently a breeze to drive.

yea, i would love running around with a car with a 1 speaker radio, no sound damping and how much is that optional A/C going to tack on to the 75k sticker price? It is not a street car even if you can legally drive it on them

The Z/28's purpose in life is for the track, that's true. It can be driven on the streets just fine if you don't mind the lesser luxuries, which some people don't care about. One thing though is those tires have to be warmed up to get proper grip.

The whole reason for the "one speaker" system is that there must be a dinging sound relayed out when the door is open or your seatbelt is undone.  It is a requirement for street legal cars.  But who needs a radio when you have an LS7 under your hood?

Wow! You really have no idea of how good the Z/28 is on the track

This would be my problem with calling the Z/28 the best drivers car. It is a track car and nothing more. It is not something you want to take anywhere but the track. Everything else on the list is something you can live with every day but not the Z/28 and the price....no just no

The Z/28's purpose in life is for the track, that's true. It can be driven on the streets just fine if you don't mind the lesser luxuries, which some people don't care about. One thing though is those tires have to be warmed up to get proper grip.

exactly why you can't compare it to any of the other cars in that list. It is a bogus comparison and therefore totally meaningless

I would take the Camaro 2SS 1LE over the Z28 any day of the week. If I only wanted a car for weekends in the Summer that I could legally drive to the track I would buy a Z28.....beyond that the 2SS 1LE makes way more sense. I still hate the sight lines out of these cars.....but beyond that they are pretty awesome.

I think this sums up about most of the Ford fanboyism and the "But they didn't put my car in!!" whiny comments.

first unless any of you have road in the new Z28 you have no ideal what truly phenomal car it is on track, true it not the perfect daily driver, was not meant to be, you can add air and better sound but why. the main demographic there targeting is the club racer. as for the mustang super snake with its sc 5.8, how much power do you think you could get from that ls7 with a sc bolted on? 950 is very easy to get for just a few grand, but then you are going to upset the track balance of it.
