    Dear jrarentz,

Can you please confirm that you have tried switching your SLI bridge to the other SLI connector on the card? Do you have another SLI bridge to try?

Does it happen if you remove the bridge?

Flickering in games is sometimes cause by a bad connection with the SLI bridge. Remove it and reseat it and wiggle the connectors in place. Sometimes turning it upside down helps but I never had to do that.

    Dear Sajin,

I can confirm that 2 way SLI should not be a issue and in general this is something that we have only seen on very few 3-way SLI configs and we are looking into this with Nvidia for a solution.

I will try reseating the bridge or using another one. I have both the EVGA versions to try. I'm pretty sure I have everything installed correctly. I read my mb manual an followed the instruction on which slots etc.

There are two "gold finger" tabs on the 980s. Does it matter which ones I use?

You can use either tab. Some of the earlier lighted EVGA Pro SLI bridges had problem with flickering if that's what you're using.

I can confirm that if the bridge is a older pro bridge and you are running over 60Hz then that is possible, but the Pro bridge would usually only flicker at higher refresh rates before we updated it.

That's what I'm using. I'll try replacing it with another one.

That's good to hear. I had problems with two of those Pro SLI bridges that I got from Amazon. There is an updated version available from EVGA. If you apply for an RMA they will ship you the newer Rev 2.0 model.

Not to hijack, but I have one of the aforementioned SLI bridges sitting here on my desk awaiting the arrival of my two GTX970 cards (returning from RMA now) - how do you know if it's v2.0 or the older bridge?  Mine is still unopened - would it show Rev 2.0 on the underside of the bridge next to the connectors?

If you got it directly from EVGA then it should be the newest version. Other than that you would need to get a response from somebody here on the Support Staff or call EVGA on the phone. I lost interest after my second failure and it wasn't worth it to me to pay shipping to RMA it to EVGA after paying full price at another company since EVGA refuses to accept payment from my bank. I'm down to a single video board now at least until next April.

Re: Flickering with SLI 2014/11/21 11:41:43 (permalink)
I purchased a GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 card and it completely failed when running 3DMark Fire Strike. I sent it back for replacement and while waiting bought a second one. I works great. My replacement for the first card arrived and when I tried to run benchmarks in SLI mode the screen flickered and red bands rolled in the background. I sent it back for replacement. The replacement for the replacement card arrived and the same thing happened. Another card is on the way.

Both replacment cards when installed by themselves idled at 40 degrees C and above verses the good card I received that idles at 30 degrees. The card that failed also idled over 40 degrees. Is it possible that my good card is too good and won't play nice with the others or do I just need to use a different SLI bridge?

These cards are running on an Asus X79 Deluxe board with great SLI spacing and are in a Corsair Carbide Air 540 case that has good cooling. I have been running two GTX 780 Classifieds in SLI for the last year with no problems.

I just received a new Pro SLI bridge from a EVGA and replaced the flexible bridge with it. It works fine. Must have been the old Pro bridge was defective.

I'm also experiencing horrible flickering as well...i'll try using the flexible bridge instead of the EVGA Pro SLI bridge and see if that works
