Horvat

I am honored to have been one of the nominations. Really, choked me up a little. I would not be able to devote the time needed at this time. Don't get me wrong, I would love to do this. Right now my job is absolutely horrible. The working conditions suck, they treat me like garbage and through their scheduling bias and unfairness have effectively destroyed my personal life and my relationship. I hope to be starting a new job soon in an entirely new career field that even pays better. I have been assured I have the job but I have always been one to not count my chickens before they are hatched. When I have the offer letter in my hand then I will proceed forward. At that time I will be able to devote the time needed to be a responsible leader. Hoefully this will happen in the next 2 months. If a leader is still needed at that time, I would humbly accept the nomination. Thank you.

Seeing as how Horvat would LIKE to do it, but can't for a while, I would be willing to handle what needs to be done on an interim basis. When he's all refreshed and ready, I'd be willing to go back to just being a team member, with no need for any drama of any kind. (..just put that last part in there so you can quote me if I get out of line when the time comes
I just have a 4 day vacation the second half of next week where the internet will be slow and (perhaps) spotty, as i'll be out in the boondocks, then no more vacations for the rest of the year. After that, things are very stable and work is not stressful, and the team needs help, so... reporting for duty!! If anyone else is mulling over doing the job, feel free.
..and just to be clear, even though it will be a "temp" position for me, I'll will not do it halfway. You can expect me to work hard to do whatever needs to be done to help out our team. I like to think of all of us as co-captains, so to speak, and will value any ideas or suggestions you may have as well.

Sounds good to me... I withdraw my name for consideration and point the finger at Horvat!

I've been dabbling in a lot of other DC Vault projects since starting to crunch, but will be focusing more on WCG.

Like others, I'll give my help to our group as I can and join in competitions as they arise.  Personally, I'm starting to think the bigger projects and various competitions are important to the team in order to be seen and draw interest.

Yes it will help get new blood on to team evga .Like the crunching contest we are in now. There are 50 teams we are running 10th at this time. But when I look to see how we are doing I look at the names of teams we are trying to catch. If I was looking for a team they are the ones I would look at first.Hell its human nature to be on one of the higher placing teams.
As for me I plan on running 5 projects on my I7. Now as I look around at other sites they mite not all ways be the same projects. I will all ways change over to project we are doing as a team for contests.

I'm flattered for the suggestion but right now I moved all my limited resources back to folding to try and give our team a little lift over there.
If I had more rigs I would still be crunching but for a little I'm going to keep them folding. I started out on this adventure several years ago when my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
Her health continues to deteriorate and even though I don't like the way PG handles the project, I still think its the best shot for a cure.

I think anyone on this team no matter their experience could step into the position. You are all a great group of guys!

Folding whatever I can :o)

Re:Looking for a new WCG captain and Crunching co-captain 2012/06/06 12:07:59 (permalink)
After reading all the replies I had some thoughts of my own and I'll go out on a limb with a suggestion.  First, I think the day-to-day maintenance needs of a captain/cocaptain are pretty limited, now that we are represented in most areas of crunching.  It is still important to visit the forum frequently to keep up-to-date and help out other teammates.  Second, though, I think new folks bring a new perspective and additional energy that would be helpful to grow the team.

With the second point in mind, I think I would like to step down as well.  I recently retired and find that I actually have less free time than before, and my energy is now going to new projects and ideas at home.

So, my suggestion would be to have Viper97 as one co-captain, and mflanaga as the other co-captain for 2 months or so, to then step down when Horvat is ready.

We can actually use the evga.dc.captains login as the WCG team captain, so that any of the 4 captains/cocaptains can log in to join us in any of the WCG challenges (which is really the only special duty of the captain ID).

So, rather than set up a vote, would people be okay with:
Co-captain 1: Viper97
Co-captain 2: mflanaga / Horvat team

I've been staying pretty quiet while Punchy does his thing... I'm still pointing a finger at Horvat... and yeah, if the team thinks I can do it... I'll help in anyway I can.

I think there are quite a few very helpful and knowledgeable members with the EVGA Crunching and Folding teams that could be valuable in helping the Crunching team grow. I think the people that Punchy suggested are great choices. I hope we can find new ways to continue with team growth. The team has come a long way in a short time.

Just received an update on my new job prospect. sounds like it could come through sooner than originally thought. So my point is I'm thinking I could assume this role sooner than I initially anticipated. Will know more by the end of next week.

So I think we have a consensus here such that a vote is not required.  However, there may be some folks that don't want to speak up here, that might want to be included in a vote, or have someone else included in a vote.  If so, please PM me and I will be happy to set up a vote while protecting your privacy.

Please vote!  I'm not worried if I win, lose or end up as VP... I'm more interested in getting folks to just be active in the crunching forum and expressing their views!

nah.. No vote needed. Heck we only have four folks right now because of the need at the time. We may end up learning we need more in the long run.

And to be frank........ We are all co-captains as long as we carry ourselves in the manner that is appropriate for all age levels and "Get" that this is about human life, not personal gain or agendas.
