To the right of Power Limit should be a little arrow. Click that and Temp limit should appear below.
If not then you may need to update afterburner.

Also increase Power Limit to the max if you haven't already.

Ok, this temperature target 85° makes the fan more flexing and keeping my card mostly at 82-83° while the clock now nicely keeps on max :)
This seems to give me several new possibilities, cool!
Thank you very much but still without own fiddling the card would not keep its max. What is a safe temperature? It seems when pushed this card clocks nicely.

Max temp for the 970 is 98C, but I would try to keep it below 85C.

What are your room temps? 83C is quite hot for a 970.

Room temp is not high, my case isn't the most airy and i try to keep a silent case, not much fans. My old 560, 660ti and 670 kept cool enough.

I have just acquired this card in Europe. I needed a rear blower fan type since I am using it in a Silverstone GD05, a HTPC case that goes under my TV, and which I use for both multimedia and gaming. I upgraded from a GTX 260 from XFX on a Linux system (using the NVIDIA proprietary drivers on Archlinux). I have not used it for a long time, but my first impression is very good.

Firstly, as expected, performance is extremely good. Using the Unigine valley test (Linux version), I went from 2-3 fps to 53 fps using the extreme HD setting. I guess result is not surprising, but this is a very good outcome.

Secondly, the card is less noisy than the old XFX (which was also a rear blower and was quite noisy at max load), both at rest and load. With the valley test, the GPU goes up to 78 degrees, which is quite high but ok considering my case has no powerful fans (to maintain quietness). Even at max the fan is more noticeable but still reasonable. Nothing to do with the XFX which was doing a strong fan noise at load!

Thirdly, with real world apps, such as Metro Last Light (for Linux) and Skyrim (running with wine), I get excellent a very good performance without having annoying noise. Temps are in the order of 60-70 degrees but the fan works very well. As soon as the game stops, temperatures go down very quickly, faster than with the XFX.
Really I am happy with it but have not tried overclocking yet.

I hope this is informative.

hey

got myself the 970 sc blower today.

coil whine is obvious at Firestrike, sometimes in Watch Dogs.. other than that it seems quiet and cool.
im happy with it so far. stable and performance is great.

Hey guys,

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I was wondering if someone would be willing to share a copy of the 970 sc blower BIOS, I'd really appreciate it
