Played about 5 hrs of FC 4 yesterday on my new 980 SC.  No crashes, very few hiccups... A few stutters.  A great experience if you have the necessary juice. Everything ultra... maxed out...  TXAA...  Average  50-ish fps... About 3 gigs of vram.

My PC runs circles around yours and it stutters like hell max settings... Maybe, you are just oblivious to the issues? Happy ignorance?

I agree with this.  Even though I don't have many problems playing this game anymore, it still requires a GTX 980 for for decent fps on ultra at 1080.  That is a bit ridiculous.

UPDATE:
This patch seems to have got rid of most of the stuttering, although I saw a tiny bit of stuttering when newer location/scenes were loading. Other than that, fps is a lot smoother now. Not sure if its related, but i did get stuck in a cave between two walls and saw some texture disappearing and flashing. Overall the patch is superb (1320mb in size).

Did more testing and I am surprised at the awful all over the place FPS this game has.

At the lowest settings, all low and off what can be, I get 60 FPS and at some places, like when you open the door in the start, 30FPS!. I wonder what happens when you progress a bit more further. What happens when animals come etc etc.

A clear case of Nvidia paying the devs to make everyone jump to at least GTX 970 to play this game at ultra. I dont wanna know what people above 1080p need!.

ALL OVER THE PLACE.

well...yea the game is not running very well on PC but really how long did you plan on that 660 lasting before it was just EOL? another 6 months? a year at most? You haven't been able to max out a game with it for quite a while as it is. Yea Ubisoft did a very very poor job on the PC version but come on...

You haven't been able to max out a game with it for quite a while as it is.

What makes you say that?.

You are here to bash me and my GTX 660 now?.

I am on 900p so it should work. The recommended settings on geforce.com are a lie.

Come one what?. Start buying new GPU every year?. Good for you. I know where I stand. All I am showing is how poor this game is.

BTW, I do play most games on ultra without a hitch. This coming from a guy who doesn't care about eye candy.

EOL... lol

Was not bashing either you or your card i was just simply pointing out the facts. What made me say that is the fact i was on a pair of 660 Ti until last weekend and could not max out a AAA title for well over a year. I had hoped i could get another 6 months or so out of the set but it was just going to happen. And that is not just for this game. GRID autosport, forget running it near max with the 660s. It was a mix of med and high to keep a somewhat decent frame rate with no huge dips. Even if your only running 900p you are going to find that you don't have the power or vram to keep up with new titles even if they are properly optimized for PC. 660 are closing in on EOL as far as being a decent gaming card.

After the patch 1.5, it seems like god rays were toned down a little bit. Before, you can see individual rays from the sun through trees. Now I can see light through the trees but not so defined. Not sure if its just me though. I would like to hear other peeps chime in on these. I hope that ubisoft did not downgrade this game like they did on ps4 with this patch.

I'm still getting shadowing of graphics with two 980's in SLI... possibly the drivers but they are the latest and supposedly optimized for FC4... not looking good.  Haven't notice to many things changed yet.

depending entirely on your setup.

OK. I will make sure I buy a titan black and a 5960x because its my setup and not this awesomely optimized game.

Forgive me.

I think he meant every setup runs different. My setup doesn't run this game at all... Probably because I never bought it... LoL.

So I played FC4 last night with the new patch.  The first 2 times I tried to play the game crashed at the initial login screen.  I turned off EVGA Precision and it booted and played without issues.  Didn't notice any stuttering, but now the audio crackles every now and then. Is Precision a flaming dump now too?

I also can no longer play ACU.  It runs for 1-5 minutes before crashing to the desktop.  What's the deal ubicrap?

Whoooo this new patch worked wonders! I had TERRIBLE performance with my dual 970s previously. If I wanted to try and run "Ultra" or "Nvidia" settings, Id be seeing well under 60FPS sometimes. Now it seems everything but TXAA works flawlessly and I can see triple digit FPS (without TXAA, with it on, the frames hovers around 60FPS) (2560x1080). HUGE increase in performance across the board. Also bonus, they added 21:9 aspect ratio in the menu!

Yup. No stuttering and a little FPS increase. Huge, triple digits in the case of low!. FOV slider feels different too and better.

One thing I noticed. Game automatically turns on vsync when 'auto scene' happens. Like when the 4x4 crashes in the start and when you open the door after the torture chamber. If your FPS is above 60, it locks it to 60 and if below, like when I increased the visuals, it locked itself at 30 FPS.

I only got one shudder when entering the 'City of Pain' mission. I freed one captive before I got spotted and had to start over again from the back of the truck. This time I got spotted by the first guy on the left before I got anywhere. I think I met my end in Far Cry 4 just like I did in Far Cry 3 after the waterfall scene with no weapons where I need to rely on stealth. Stealth Mode doesn't seem to be one of my strong points. Either way, my FPS increased by as much as 20 in most areas with settings on 'Ultra'. Other than that one stutter everything seems much better for me after downloading the patch.

All lies. This game REQUIRES a 4gB card and not a 2gB until unless you play on medium.

I agree with this.  Even though I don't have many problems playing this game anymore, it still requires a GTX 980 for for decent fps on ultra at 1080.  That is a bit ridiculous.

Ultra @ 60fps 1080p on (one of my) GTX770 (SC 4GB) on v1.4. This may or may not fluctuate, but that's my benchmark from the opening scene making it to the cliff.
SLI isn't setup on this game correctly so it runs so much better on a single GPU like every other Ubi game this year.
I'm yet to get properly into this game, so some additional configs and updates will be required prior to this.
The game is fine, it's just a matter of doing some configuring that Ubisoft is incapable of doing.

You don't need a 980 for ultra @ 1080p @ 60fps - but it would be nice.
You don't need more than 3gb for any game less than or equal to 1080p, but it's a nice to have... I can't really talk as I have a total of 8GB VRAM - but it's never used.

Ok... So maaaaybe a 980 is a bit of an embellishment.  But, its not far off.

Played last night for a couple of hours, and it ended in a crash on version 1.5. I wasn't moderating the frame rate. With the exception of a crash every now and then the game runs good enough for me.  But it still crashes nonetheless. I have many-a-game installed on my rig and only 2 crash. ACU & FC4.

In between ACU crashes I have noticed that it uses 3.7GB vram (all settings jacked)... Soooooooo not exactly sure about your 3GB vram theory, but in general you are correct. As well, you do have 8GB vram b/w your 770's but as far as SLI is concerned, you have 4GB.

Zuhl3156 Stealth Mode doesn't seem to be one of my strong points.

I didn't find it difficult. Pretty easy.

He did write 'very few hiccups, a few stutters'. :p

Anyways, shows what a turd this game is. Considering he is on 1080p, you need THAT kind of PC to get 50'ish FPS. What damn ground damn breaking graphics are we getting BTW?.

8GB vram b/w your 770's but as far as SLI is concerned, you have 4GB.

I am sure he is confused.

Only horsepower is used. RAM stays the same. 4gB in this case.

OK. I am furious.

Don't even know what to do. Playing at 50+ FPS, finished the prologue, everything fine until I went hunting the wolves. EXTREME amount of stuttering.

One place to another, the FPS are EXTREMELY inconsistent. You are getting screen tearing at one point and stuttering the other. WTH should I do!.

Your video board only has 2 GB of VRAM doesn't it? My game uses almost 2.6 GB of RAM on Ultra. Using this fix from Guru3D will drop your VRAM usage down to about 1.6-1.7 GB:

The entry is hard to find because of the way the config file is formatted. It is in the top ¼ of the file.

Well then. I disabled fur completely. Who the hell even cares.

Night time, simulated option, watching a dead wolf or snow leopard. Loss, at most 20FPS and at the least, 13.

Off it is.

Will test more tomorrow.

I was using that fix to drop VRAM usage for a while and still don't know what it did. Things are better with the latest patch. It kind of stinks when the game developers demand you buy bigger and better video boards just to play their game. I smell a conspiracy or is it collusion?

I stay away from fixes until unless they fix the game in some major way.

Conspiracy?. It is but you dont have to worry. Your GPU is what this game is made for. The 9 series and it's cutting-edge, super speedy tessellation engine. :p

Yeah, I got the game for free with the 980 but now I already want another one for SLI.

I just got a 980 as well and I want another one too!!!!    I feel naked without SLI.
