I saw an EVGA representative post this under a users comment.

"1. We understand that some users were expecting the ACX 2.0 fan version to be available on the launch day, but unfortunately the ACX 2.0 development schedule did not allow us to have ACX 2.0 product available at launch. We plan to offer an ACX 2.0 fan upgrade program, stay tuned for news on this."

I wonder what the details are on this? I hope its totally free or maybe just pay for shipping at the most.

I've been hoping for this. I'm not quite happy with my GTX 970 ACX 1.0. It's a mighty bit to loud for my taste. So I'm playing with the idea of getting some big aftermarket cooler. But I'd very much like to have an acx 2.0 on board (pun intended).
Maybe this might get my card cooler --> quieter.
    So +1 from me.

    - AND I'd like this bios update that was mentioned (by some evga guy on reddit). The lower cap of 35% fan speed is a bit too noisy for me on idle/normal use

My ACX 1.0 is silent, so unless the 2.0 upgrade is free... I'll pass.  Now if it comes with the FTW 4 heat-pipe cooler then maybe.

So, anyone got any update on this?
At least a confirmation (or denial) would be helpful.

    *edit:
for clarification: I'm talking about the possible ACX 1.0 to ACX 2.0 update program

with the advertisements I was yield to believe that ACX 2.0 were for all 900 series card. When I purchased it on the 19th there were no information about not being an acx 2.0, as those weren't available yet anywhere :(

Same here brother, EVGA dropped the ball so hard and are now trying to play catch up. They were so behind with on the launch of the gtx 900 probably because they are too busy worrying about motherboards and other crap.

    1. We'll give you a free back plate "because we didn't have time to put it on"
    2. We'll offer the ACX 2.0 fan upgrade "because we didn't have time to make it"
    3. We'll come out with a new bios "because we didn't have time to flash the bios"
    4. We'll have a high flow bracket soon "because we didn't have time to design one"
    5. We have 2 useful copper pipes while everyone else has 3-4 "because we didn't have time"
    6. We have 4 vrms compared to everyone else's 5-6 "because???"
    7. We have lower quality voltage regulators and capacitors "because????"

EVGA has great customer service but their engineers/investment team really screwed up royally. They are probably second from the bottom in quality for this gtx 900 series launch. There's only so much the nice support people can do for the company!

Re: Fan Upgrade Program for ACX 1.0 GTX 900 Cards 2014/10/08 08:03:44 (permalink)
The fan upgrade won't be free that is almost guaranteed. I believe the ACX 2.0 version cards are at least $10 more expensive, so at a minimum it'll cost $10 but most likely a little more plus shipping.

I ordered my EVGA on launch day also and honestly I didn't even consider that ACX 1.0 would be used in the design of the new 9x0 series cards. I just assumed that all the cards that were SC or higher would have ACX 2.0 because it was being hyped all over the EVGA home page. I was wrong unfortunately but the turn off feature isn't something I think I will use. I keep my fan on at 55% min all the time because it isn't audible to me till the fan hits 68% and it hasn't even hit that high yet even after hours of playing Shadows of Mordor.

Any news from EVGA? I want my ACX 2.0...

My temps and fan noise of my GTX 970 SC are too high, I am disappointed with EVGA.

you are not a reference :p

at idle it's the loudest card in the 9xx series. check reviews.

    35% for 1300rpm and 35° it's useless and loud

tbf i only bought the 1.0 as the 2.0 was not in stock on Amazon or in Australia

otherwise the 2.0 would have been the go knowing the coil whine issue on the acx 1.0s

if its just the cooler upgrade then that will fix the noise to an extent but coil whine will still be present though

I just found out about this entire thing and I'm in the same boat. I have a ACX 1.0 card and had no idea it didn't have a 0% idle fan until I got on the forums and found the firmware update and the note. I'd gladly pay for the bits to upgrade to 2.0

I have an 1.0 and 2.0 card in my system (One of the cards was RMA'd)
Honestly, don't expect too much from 2.0. Noise and temp wise there is pretty much no difference. Lower noise in idle is the only advantage IMO. Get the FTW if you want a superior card.

No news after 2+mnths? One of the fans on my ACX 1.0 cooler spins faster than the other, so it's effectively the loudest thing in my rig(both idle and light load). Would really love to upgrade to a 2.0 for the lower power consumption and quieter operation. EVGA, support early adopters plz?
