Wow this is grate EVGA
I have 70 day to step-up
The only thing is I just got my FTW 970 like a month ago and  got a 4 year in store product replacement
when I had my 670's I was doing a update flash and the power went out and the cards died
took them back and got 2 new card over the counter.
So with the IPR I don't have to ship my card to EVGA .
So is it worth it for me I got back plates on my cards  the new FTW+ is faster out of the box
but can't I o/c my FTW to the FTW + clocks
So what made you mind up to step-up plus I want to see some reviews

And I from Canada do I have to pay duty on top of the shipping and tax

What's about the coil whine problem? Has it been fixed with the new FTW+?

When will the new FTW+ be available in EU?

Not sure if the coil whine has necessarily been "fixed", but it seems like it has only been a real problem for some. My FTW had coil whine at high framerates when I first got it, mostly at 500+ fps in game menus. Any coil whine seems to be completely gone now.

THNX for the heads up Jacob! I been HOPING for something new to show up on the "Step-Up" list.....aaannd...BAAMMMM!!!....DER IT IS!...lol
I've been trying to justify steppn'up from my "SC" version to the FTW, and go SLI, and the "+" has made my decision for me!

NOTE: BE AWARE!!!...for those quickly looking at the new announcement with "SMILES of JOY!"(like I AM!), the new version NOT ONLY does it get a Back-plate upgrade(woot!!!), but it ALSO gets new PORTS upgrade as well! We're getting ADDED Display Ports(x2) and DVI-D is REMOVED, but still maintaining DVI-I(I noticed it on the image for the new FTW+ on the site). So for those that are still using combo inputted screens, BE AWARE of the change it may make to your display configuration!

Re: EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ 2015/01/17 12:58:04 (permalink)
Clocks on the ftw & ftw+ are the same. what has changed in order of importance imo is the two additional power phases & 33% more power for those power phases "ftw was hitting the TDP"  think of it as an 6 cylinder engine that was only running on five cylinders. After that the straight heat pipes across the board =better cooling & the the memory and transistor cooling plate which degrades the heat an additional 47% for the transistors & 14% for the memory. Last & least important is the back plate. It adds addition cooling especially if you have air in your case hitting the back plate. All this to me equals a card that is well thought out and with 100% hindsight should have been on the original ftw & ssc. Hope this helps...

& for those that care the rear ports were also changed.

So you already have the new FTW+? Or is it still the FTW and you got a replacement without coil whine?

I guess the new FTW+ with its new design will also decrease this issue?

No one has the FTW+ yet, maybe some will get it today as it just came out yesterday. The additional power phases may or may not "fix" the coil whine...we will have to wait and see.... op meant after "breaking in the gpu" the coil whine went away....Here is a great read about the coil whine and how to get rid of it...

A quick Q: I ordered 2x 970 SCC, they will be sent out the 24Th (my retailer dosent have them yet, biggest retailer in Norway) I may put em under water, so i dont need the backplate nor the extra mhz as i will Oc anyway.

But that is the only difference between SCC and FTW+, Backplate and higher mhz on core?

Thank you!

No, I have an FTW currently, though I am stepping up to the FTW+ :D. Also, I never had to get a replacement. The GPU just needed to be broken in to eliminate the coil whine. I let my PC sit on the menu of The Witcher at something like 700 fps or even higher, I don't remember.

while the SSC is much better than SC but for the same price, why is FTW+ 10$ more expensive than the FTW?
this doesn't make any sense as FTW+ gets 40$ higher price than the SSC for 26MHz more and a 19.99$ backplate.
the star in my opinion is not the FTW+ but the SSC...

With the overall improvements, you are paying $10 more than the FTW for a backplate and a great revision. For someone buying outright, the ssc may be the better deal, but for someone with any other card that can step up, the FTW+ is the best option by far.

You're paying $30 for a guaranteed 26mhz bump if you buy the backplate separate.  That's basically it.

But say the backplates are $19.99 directly from EVGA and $30.00 from Amazon like they are now, you're only paying $10 for the higher clock speed.

Edit: My mistake, that would actually be $20. I could have swore it showed $380 for the FTW+ when I went to start a step-up. I think you can still step-up to the SSC from an FTW if the FTW+ isn't worth it to you.

I agree my friend but only regarding the Step-up for user with no backplate, for everything else this just doesn't apply.

I have the FTW and bought a backplate already so what now?
step-up to FTW+, pay for backplate (again), pay shipment, pay for this pay for that - that's just nonsense really.

there is no single 970 not capable of getting +26MHz OC so what's the reason for buying FTW+ over the SSC?
the FTW had it's own place in the product line but the SSC, performance and price wise, makes the FTW+ needless - IMO.

SSC + backplate = 20$ cheaper than the FTW+ and who cares about the 26MHz, you'll never feel a difference.

just like nVidia killed the 700 series by launching the 900 series, the EVGA SSC killed all the 970's.

is this good or bad? well, depends on the point of view.

Jacob, you mentioned faster.... Specs show the same clocks as the original FTW?

EVGA_JacobF
Faster, improved cooler and backplate

He means that the new FTW+ has a higher power limit, and will not throttle like previos FTW model
Also the new FTW has a new heatsink, a plate over the pcb, and the backplate

Oh man, decisions decisions...

My new FTW is performing very well, boost clock is 1404 MHz, practically 0 coil whine, runs nice and cool...

Same here 1379 constant and silent. I also got the free backplate on it.....

Waiting for this model to become available for purchase aswell to build my first desktop Pc in 7 years. Any idea when will it be added to the store?

Will it fit into the Corsair Air 240 btw? I read on a forum that the Evga Gtx 970 is one of the few cards on the 970 serie that can fit into Air 240 but i want to be sure.

Can we get some PCB shots without the cooling plate? Would love to see how the VRM's compare to Asus, MSI, Gigabyte (or more detailed power specs). Wondering if maybe I can push 250w-300w out of it with vBIOS mod xD. I'm pretty underwhelmed with my Asus 970's, the sloppy EVGA 970 ACX2 heatpipe design left a bad taste in my mouth... glad to see that's fixed.

Edit: Also, what's the power inputs? 8+6? or still 6+6?

I hope the PCB of the FTW and the FTW+ will be the same, just with the 6+2 phase design?!
Don't want to wait for a new coller for the FTW+ - still waiting for a cooler for my FTW :/

The PCB differs.. Saw a picture of it somewhere, the core has been moved a bit towards the rearports if i remember correct.

The ftw+ and ssc models, now are like they should been from the beginning. With 8pin+6pin and higher power target! My new ssc boost higher than my old ftw. :) (1405mhz, and no throttle)

The PCB differs.. Saw a picture of it somewhere, the core has been moved a bit towards the rearports if i remember correct.

Good way to stop the con artists from buying a FTW+ then pulling the warranty sticker from a FTW, switching coolers around, lol then asking for a refund. Taking that!

EVGA stopping the crooks, one genius change at a time.

Probably moreso to fix the cooler... since the one they originally had wasn't hitting the core with all the heatpipes. though I'd guess this new design is probably a test board meant to scale up to the next big maxwell.

I'd still like to see some 970's from EVGA with reference titan-style coolers though. that design is nearly flawless.

Do you have to resend the invoice if already registered a 970 FTW to step-up to the FTW+
