So I purchased a 970 FTW less than a week ago and have had it sitting unopened ready to be installed.  Should I return it and wait for the FTW+ to be released?  I could care less about the faster clock but I do like the upgraded cooling and power phases.

I also purchased a 970 Superclocked for my sons rig a few weeks back as the reviews were pretty good.  No coil noise (that I can tell) and runs at 75 degrees celcius at full load - might try stepping it up to a SCC to get the upgraded cooling.

It'd be in your best interest to do both, however 75 degrees is really no big deal. Besides EVGA offers three year warranty standard and you can extend it within 90 days. If he's patient, may as well step up to the SSC just for the additional benefits.

Darn, I JUST bought a 970 FTW at full price thinking it was the best 970 I could get. I didn't know FTW+ was in the pipeline and wasn't really clear on the benefits of the new SSC until I registered and started reading these forums. Don't get me wrong, I love my card and for me it's not worth the hassle of returning it, but it would be awesome if I could upgrade it to the FTW+ sometime down the line. Hopefully the people that make that decision are reading this thread :)

Yep got my new FTW here about 3 weeks ago, loving the card but I am watching this site closely, if they offer a step up to the FTW+ for us FTW owners,  I will jump on it.

I wonder if the FTW+ will be a beast of a card. It will prob be like $400. I wonder if they will do the same like they did with the SSC being the same price of SC. *cross fingers*

I've got about a month left to step-up from my FTW to the FTW+, if such an offer will be made available. I'm not one who wants to spend time tweaking/OCing my video card. I just wanted the highest clocked, most stable card out of the box. So far, my FTW has performed well, but it couldn't hurt to upgrade to the + version, if possible.

According to what I saw from the cached web page on EVGA's European website the FTW+ had the same clock speed as the FTW. I guess it could've been placeholder, not too sure.

I also just went into step two.  I am pretty sure they just came back to work today and we were approved.  I started the step up on the 24th of december.  so now we have 2 days till they review our purchase receipt then another 7 days to pay them.  If the new ftw+ is not out by then I will just pay and accept my new card.  my step up ends on the 18th or so I will not wait and see if anything changes in that extra week I have.

I was right at my computer when this news was releases and jumped right on and did some comparisons between the 2 new cards.  the below is what the website headline was

The new generation of EVGA GeForce GTX 970s have arrived with the SSC and FTW+. These enhanced models offer improved cooling, double BIOS support, new display output configuration and 6 power phases for robust overclocking support. The FTW+ model even has an included backplate.

now when we go to that link the info is not there anymore.  on the bottom right you see a drop down that shows the ssc edition but I swear when that page first launched it also on that drop down had the ftw+.  As I remember everything was exactly the same except for the back-plate and the extra 25MHZ or so.  it showed both having the same expanded voltage and power rate.

I really hope we can step up from our already bought ftw to a ftw+ (I bought mine 2 weeks ago -.-) I wouldn't mind to pay an additional 25 - 50 Bucks.

it seems the FTW+ will be cheaper than what we paid for the FTW. so why pay a difference for it?

the new SSC costs as much as the SC although newer and much better.

Where did you get this price info? New ftw+ is coming with a back plate so how could it be cheaper then the original?

1. the new SSC costs as much as the SC although newer and much better.
2. Jacob stated on Twitter, the FTW+ is going to have a very aggressive pricing.

even if not cheaper it would be about the same price imo, otherwise it won't be a choice against the SSC.
so if the new FTW+ costs more than SSC+Backplate (349.99$ + 19,99$), who should buy it and why?

for those like me who bought the FTW and a backplate it would be then a no brainer to just step-up to a SSC.
then put the backplate we already have on and that's it.
the price decides about the future of the FTW+, the right one will make it sell but a wrong one will make it collect dust compared to the SSC.

now it's real, the FFT+ is just a higher GPU clocked and backplated SSC.

Nice find, but other than a little extra mhz which doesn't really matter, the power phases are the same, so why would you pay more than 20 dollars over the SSC for this when the only 'new' thing is a backplate?

There will be a waterblock by EK for ACX 2.0 cards. Will it fit with the new cards too? (+15,6mm)
What do you think?

The current FTW model has a better cooler. So it's probably a better cooler and backplate. Possibly a better voltage controller too.

Not at all.  My 670 FTW was a 670 on a 680 PCB.  Only the FTW edition did that.

As a disappointed owner of 2x FTW where:
- the only FTW thing about them was the price
- the ASIC is weak sauce - 68.1% and 68.8%
- they don't even run at same voltage while SLI'ing
- the core can barely touch the 1500 Mhz barrier and the power limitations even at 110% power, prevents them from staying there
- the memory can't be clocked anywhere near the 8000 Mhz that most users are comfortably getting on air
- the coil whine is not a lie

I too would like to confirm that my pitchfork is raised high after reading the news that a real FTW is now being released and on top of that, cheaper than what I paid for my beta testing FTW versions...

My stet up possibilities are due by the end of January, and I would love if, at least, one of the following things could happen:
-  the vanilla GTX 980s drop to the price point that I spent on my FTWs, and I step up to two 980s
- the fabled extra VRAM versions enter the market, and I step up to them
- none of the above materializing, at least, that I'm given the change to step up from these pretend FTWs to the real deal labeled as FTW+

One thing is certain: lesson learned; it was the first and the last time I trusted a manufacturer to come forth with an optimized product at launch. No doubt the sweet spot for "new hardware" purchases is 3 months after it's on the market and the pitchfork mob QAed the product for the final performance adjustments.

It's really saddening to see EVGA's market approach nowadays. There must have been quite a few internal changes for all these constant odd decisions happening nowadays.
I hereby confirm, that this situations leaves a very fowl taste in this sad panda's face.

25 days left on my step up. I'll wait until a couple days left then go with 3975 SSC if the FTW+ still is unavailable. Maybe I'll even get the vanilla 980 if its price drops.

for those like me who bought the FTW and a backplate it would be then a no brainer to just step-up to a SSC.
then put the backplate we already have on and that's it.

The old FTW backplate likely won't fit due to the new card being longer, with the GPU moved slightly relative to the PCIE slot...
