If you already have the EK 780Ti KingPin blocks you can try to modified them to fit the 980 Classified and 980 KingPin.


I use EK 780Ti KingPin start November 2014 on my 980 Classified then modified them for 980 KingPin and don't spend another $1200 with EK

Well pretty much with just the swtiches and the power slider jacked up in psx I can do a hair under 1600mhz no problem. Anything more will require using the classy tool and really juicing this thing, makes temps out the roof even on water but for sure makes some very high clocks. Guess I will roll @ 1580 for daily driver. Keeps temps around mid 50s under load and my cpu temps are within reason under 100% load at the same time. These aren't clocks I could achieve prior without making a windtunnel. My cards were horrid on air. mid 1550s brought out 85-90c temps with 100% fan. Stock OC bios btw. I am sure could better with a diff bios.
 
Mem clock makes up for this card, elsewise it's not too impressive for such a high priced 980. Looks sick though for sure, but I think my next non ref high end will be an asus matrix.

I'm getting a solid 1600+ boost (1509 base) on air with only adding .25mv on 71 ASIC card with the kpex4pc bios........ hoping my fittings get here before the weekend so I can see how far I can push them ...... my memory is holding me back right now.

This shows you haven't been paying attention. The Block doesn't fit. It has to be modified.  Looks don't matter when it doesn't work.  
 
The change was on EVGA's side, not EK.  EK is scrambling and has completely stopped selling the blocks due to this.

You have a very stable hand lol. I considered doing that but I wasn't going to do it by hand lol. 
 
Flashed the kpex4pc not any better than stock oc bios for me. I can still hit high 1600s but my dmm is reading 1.5 on voltage to hit such clocks. Really need kpex2 but ofc that wont work with the latest driver.

Thank you for your help. Please try and get EK to at the very least to offer us a prepaid cross shipment when the blocks are revised so we don't have to wait any longer then necessary.  Also some type of refund for our troubles would not hurt.

Really wish I had room for more rads sigh. Should of gotten a 900D back then. Next case I am definitely going to get some huge ass caselabs.

I would be happy if they took my blocks back and just trim the i/O side down the entire length of the card, then replenished it.

I damaged it to get it to fit, so if they leave me hanging, I understand and can't get upset about it.

Look at it from the real perspective. If EVGA sent you revision 1.0 and you make something to fit it perfectly, and they change designs and don't tell you... Who is actually to blame?

EVGA made a minor, but obviously high impact L, change with no notification. This can be seen in prerelease pictures. As such, I don't see a refund, unless you fully return the blocks, as a viable option. Ek can not make a revision to an item they do not know about.

Ek trying to correct something they couldn't have known about is enough, especially since they have admitted what happened. Where is EVGA ever explaining the change and that there are multiple revisions?

We agree to disagree. We have not heard from EVGA about this matter...yet... So I do not take EK's statement as fact until EVGA either confirms it or states otherwise. If EVGA did confirm that this was there error, please direct me to that link & then i will shut up lol. EK has a history of putting the blame of defects on users and anyone but themselves. Including but not limited to the issues with corrosion in the gpu blocks where they blamed everything else but the method that was used to deposit the Nickle plating..... Just one example out of many...

Have you looked at the prerelease pictures, showing that there were no pins on the bracket side of the PCB? The pictures are very clear.

You can see here: [img] http://www.evga.com/produ...4G-P4-5988-KR_XL_5.jpg[/img] that there are no pins visible, yet we Know for a fact that they are there.

Since ek has already stated in multiple places that the minor modification to make it fit is an exemption to the normal warranty, then that shows they are actually concerned about customer relations in this case. Had they said, "do not modify them to fit, this isn't our fault" then that would be different.

I totally understand what you are saying & the evidence you have shown. I just do not take that as 100% proof until i hear from both sides. I would like a statement from EVGA in here.

They don't normally give statements. How many times have you seen people demanding statements on these forums? Look at the 780ti classified bios fiasco of 2014.... That was a disaster. EVGA only response, "we are working on fixing it" and then 3 weeks later "download this new bios".

That was it. This is no different.

When I first discovered this, I called EVGA and I got a guy that pretty much said oh that's a nice looking block, guess it doesn't fit huh? We must of changed it somewhere a long the way oh well.. Dude literally made it sound SUCKS TO BE YOU BUDDY

Blaming someone that couldn't have possibly know is a very very moot point.
 
As stated, very very unlikely that EVGA will say anything.  On better notes I think I just figured out something I am going to do to my cards and blocks.  More details later... Once I figure out if it works, lol.

I wonder what version of the card Bitspower got.
My blocks don't extend over those pins at all.

You are going to take them apart again? omg you must have a ton of patience   Acebound.... WOW what a great job he did with drilling out those holes! he had to use a drill press. Either that or he has the hands of a watchmaker.

I could be 100% wrong. But i like to give both sides a chance to explain before I come to a conclusion. jmo...
 
Either way we purchased the blocks directly from EK not EVGA. In imo, any blame rests with EK.
 
I also blame my headache and subsequent consumption of Advil on EK. 




 
Blaming someone that couldn't have possibly know is a very very moot point.
 
As stated, very very unlikely that EVGA will say anything.  On better notes I think I just figured out something I am going to do to my cards and blocks.  More details later... Once I figure out if it works, lol.


A quick hit with a router and bimbo it's fixed ..... no you shouldn't have to but the fix is easy enough.
 
Lessons will be learned from this.
