So I tried Win10 and installed the latest Win10 beta drivers and it told me "Direct3D feature level: 11_1" on my 980. I was expecting it to be "Direct3D feature level: 12_x"
I guess only AMD R9 390x is level 12_x.  Something about tier 3... based on the reports!
It looks like MS has the levels up to 11.3... sad that 980 only at level 11.1

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

So what exactly are you trying to run in DX12?

Not trying to run any DX12 but I bought 980 thinking it was fully DX12 so I would be good for future games (Sad Face).  On the retail box of the 980, it needs to say "DX12 - feature level 11.1" or something like that.

Since the DX12 API is still a work in progress and since very few developers have even had a chance to play with it much, I am pretty sure that very few truely know what feature level was or will be supported on video cards in the past or present. How should they know what feature level to advertise on the box?

Actually at this time the Direct X 12 API is already mostly a done deal. There might be some minor last minute tweaks but I doubt much more than that.

I predict that not even a quarter of the developers will even look at Direct x 12 until late 2016, early 2017. DX 11 is now today's "direct x9" when everybody was sucking as much xp as they could when Windows 7 was first introduced.

    Again, a prediction

Dx12 is from what I understand a software update so most of Dx11 cards will support Dx12. So I wouldnt worry about your 980's yet unless what I understood in my readings craps the bed on release of Windows 10.

In fact you can run DirectX 12 today, just install a copy of Windows 10 preview, the latest NVIDIA drivers and 3DMark. There you go, DirectX 12 :)

Blah blah blah what? It's hard to raise a valid complaint if it is not coherent.

Probably not.. AMD states something like Tier 3 DX12 meaning their R9 390x is fully DX12 hardware compatible: http://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-r9-390x-directx-12-tier-3-implementation-wce-water-cooled-edition-inbound/

I am going to be upset if this 980 doesn't support the current level of DX12.  That is why I bought it.

It does, but it doesn't have the same description as the titanX:  12 API with Feature Level 12.1.

In the nvidia control panel, it says Feature Level 11.1 on Windows 10.  Looks like you will be upset.  Try install latest Win10 preview and see it for yourself.

I'm kind of upset too.  I could have saved $200~ buying a used 780Ti but the 980 does save some power over the 780Ti.

Jacob or any other EVGA staff member can you confirm that the 980 will be directX 12.1 compliant other than the directx 11.1 or 2 or 3.

Never could understand why the question gets directed at EVGA rather than directing it straight at NVidia.  Just like the 970, EVGA is given a hardware guideline, and they follow it, NEVER making statements about NVidias part without using the same words that NVidia vomits out.  So, in short, go ask NVidia, since EVGA doesn't actually create the cards, they just follow a template.  Your answer may actually get answered quicker. It may even get answered by EVGA, but it will only be the NVidia answer.

I'm sorry if what I am about to say seems dramatic, but if my GTX 980's don't fully support DX12 when it is officially released, I am going to make full use of my warranty and be returning my cards for a full refund. Because frankly, that is false advertising, it clearing says on the box that this card is DX 12 supported and ready, which I came to believe meant that it is FULLY DX 12 supported. I will be pissed if this is not true. And the Australian law would be on my side.

Your answer will not get answered by Nvidia... They have become shady as hell.

I know they have. EVGA can't give the answers they don't have though, and we have already seen that. If they say, "it will be supported at level 12_1" and Nvidia doesn't actually support it, they will be screwed. This was the same thing from the 970 issue.

I just notice many people requesting, demanding, and yelling for answers from EVGA, whom we know can't make a positive statement because Nvidia is making shady choices. I would like to see the a few PR personal at Nvidia fired for their actions as of late. I don't follow who is at the top, but I do follow that they are hiding a lot of stuff on purpose.
