It happens to me in Battlefield too. It's usually the server.

Alright then i can exclude battlefield in the group of games that has the blank screen issue
so that brings it back to just the older games.
I may install my 780ti in my main tower and play those older games just to see if it still does it.

Long shot but i went into my NVCP and set phys x to cpu instead of auto
There were a lot of threads about the same basic issue i am having and this seems to have fixed it for many.  fingers crossed!

my problem is not FPS it is these black screens?
The game will play for a bit then the screen goes black and wont respond.
then i have to use the windows Home button and try to reset it that way.
never had this issue before on these same games.
My 780ti played these same games fine?
I dont think it is the 980 since it does play all the newer titles great, not a single issue
I get great FPS with graphics maxed

Was my point exactly! It may just be a heat/power issue so use vsync to limit the power usage. Do not assume you know what you do not.

Try running the game with power target down low just to test and or try with vsync on to help reduce load old games some times run very high fps and can stress cards more than what was intended.

Vsync is enabled in all my games to prevent tearing.
I always use it.
But i originally did not read your reply correctly and now see what you are saying about the card being too strong for a old game.  I am getting over 200 fps on these games so i use vsync to stabilize that and take care of the tearing.
my power target is set to max, so you are saying i should  try setting that to 80%,90% to
bring the cards performance down for these outdated games?

Finally solved the issue!  you guys will never believe what the problem was,i know i still dont!
Turns out that for whatever reason on these older games i have to use 1600x900
as a in game resolution?
When i set these same games to that res i no longer get the black screens like i did when i had them on 1920x1080???
wow, weird especially since my 780ti can play those same games on 1920x1080 no problem.
anyone ever here of this?

Do you have any idea of why the higher resolution setting(1920x1080) would do this just on these older games?
like i said it is only on modern warfare 2,3 and 4  and on  tom clancy's ghost recon 1+2? those are the only games that have this issue?
all my other(over 40) games work fine?
As long as i use 1600x900 which is right under 1920x1080 these games play just as good as any of my others.
The positive side for me is that even on 1600x900 the games look great for their year
so i dont really mind having to set them down a notch in res.
If this was on newer releases i would not be very happy since modern graphics are multitudes better and much more realistic looking.

Re: Classified driver issue? 2015/07/07 08:43:30 (permalink)
To even further my confusion i tried a few more things because i wanted to experiment and see why i could not use 1920x1080 so one by one i checked each thing in game.
Here is what i found, If i have my afterburner app running(i like the OSD and GPU user defined fan control)
i cannot use 1920x1080 but if i close afterburner no problems?
I also found that i CAN use afterburner's OSD as long as i use a resolution under 1920x1080?
Even the very next one down(1769x992) makes the black screen issue gone with AB's OSD on?
Anyone have any idea's of why the conflict?
it is no longer even really a issue because i do have options now to make the problem gone.
1. dont use afterburners OSD
2.use slightly lower res and AB's OSD.
I really prefer to use on screen display so i will probably use option #2 for these particular games
Luckily this is not a issue on any of my other games but i am still curious as to why it happens at all?

The issue you have is not fixed I can assure resolution is not the cause of the problem.  A few more things what if any changes have been made since games ran good on that cpu? Only change is the video card then it is possible it is a faulty gpu OR not enough clean power for it to function correctly. Well actually it could just be a hot spot in your case from having a twin axis fan on your gpu. Twin fans can be very nice but they require a LOT of air flow by them to carry that heat away from them. Try something if you can get a house fan open your case and blow fresh air into your case see if the problem is still there with the fan blowing on high pretty close to the gpu so you have good air flow for the whole system. If that will not help then we are back to not knowing for sure, but at least we will know it is not a system heat issue.

Say, try changing to another video output.

So like if you're on HDMI, try going to Display Port, or if you're on DVI, try going to HDMI.

I just had to RMA a 970 SSC because of a faulty DVI port, the black screen issue you are describing was present in all games though, not just older ones. So it's entirely possible it's a different problem entirely.

How ever, if switching to another video output fixes it, you might consider RMA.

Compatibility issue. You don't need to monitor your cards while playing if you're getting good performance.

Some of you guys are not even reading the thread.

yep SAJIN you got it,
it is without a doubt a conflict with AfterBurner.
IF it were another thing in my pc causing the problem then it would not go away when afterburner is not active.

so it has to be a compatibility issue with afterburner
