So here it is  then it's from year 2006 week 39 and it's R600 has an A11 silicon, hereby being the oldest and first silicon revision of this VPU.

so here some pics since pics can speak of over a 1000 words righty

Here some comparences with the HD 4870 Development Board and a 5500 AGP for the mix of things

Here compared with the geForce 7900 GX2:

As you can see the HD 2900 XTX has the shortest PCB , but because if it's cooler design it oversizes all cards inclusing the 7900 GX2 as well!

As for teh fan, this cooler is quite well thought you can remove the plastic lid by opening it and removing it so hereby the fan has a secondary air intake.

The black cooler makes this card look mean but as speeds go it might not even befaster than a X1900 XTX rofl, hence it's very low clock speeds and ram leakages.

This up comming weekend I will try to test ride it in a specialised ATi test systems which SR-71 Blackbird and I configured for such card runs.

He will bring his HD 2900 XTX PCI-E 1024MB 512Bit GDDR4 Rev.A1 0705 as well, we will do a new photo shoot with his and my HD 2900 XTX and we will try to test these two in CrossFire a never done before test.

Stay Tuuned.

Heh, good find for a collection I remember seeing the leaked photo's of this card before it was launched and thinking that it looked absolutely huge. And your shots comparing it to a 7900GX2 confirms my thoughts....that thing IS huge....lol

Hell yeah! I remember seeing pics of these cards leading up to the 2900 launch. If memory serves me, I think they actually sold some of these to OEM's. Not sure about the revision, but I remember seeing pics of cards that were this long.

Man, I was so looking forward to the 2900, wish it had turned out to be a better performer. Sweet card though, definitely a collectible!

Thanks for the replies people, but yeah it has afrikk;n handle haha it's actually a support bracket since it's afull size card these brackets slid in htese support slots, which many server and qworkstation systems and cases have:

see the white slots? Well that is where these support brackets slid in to and thereby supporting the full size cards against warping.

many raid cards from HP for example have these as well :)

All of my (depreciated) telephony boards from work (sort of like long system boards on a special, extra long, PCI link) have the same brackets to hold them in place.

I also have an old 478 from these fellows:
    http://www.portwell.com/products/sbc.asp

with space for another board, lol.

EDIT: it is a 370, Intel P3 Coppermine at 800MHz.

Wow that's a pretty awesome card. I have one question though, can it run Crysis?

It can, the 2900XTX is a DX10 card.

Yes the 2900 XTX is indeed a DX10 card however the alpha card I behold had issues with running DX7 and DX8 based games , it has never been tested in a Windows OS beyond XP Pro + SP2, so I will test it under Windows 7 see what this card really can unfold, a friend of mine aka SR-71 Blackbird has a much further developed HD 2900 XTX, his card has 1024MB 512Bit GDDR4 @ 2020Mhz DDR instead of 512MB 512Bit GDDR3 @ 1018Mhz DDR, talk about a big diff there.

Here the revision he has, this was my Rev.A1 0704, compared with the Rev.A0 0639 I have now:

    Rev.A1 0704 top view:

    Rev.A0 0639 top view:

    Rev.A0 0639 rear view:

    Rev.A1 0704 power & fan connectors:

    Rev.A0 0639 power & fan connectors:

His R600 XTX VPU runs @ 750Mhz as where the one on my alpha card runs 506Mhz, his VPU is of the A13 Silicon, mine is of the A11 silicon, my card is packed with heavy ram leaks, it looses alot of performance and is very unstable when using XP Pro + SP3 & ATi Cat 7.5, older drivers should work but so far I have not been able to find this out.

Here's the card SR-71 Blackbird has when we we doing an experiment of a HD 2900XT PCI-E 1024MB Rev.A2 0712 [year 2007, week 12] which was my card and his HD 2900 XTX PCI-E 1024MB Rev.A1 0705 [year 2007 week 05] in CrossFire X, this was also the first time such an experiement has taken place and yes CrossFire worked flawlessly but again only with a sepperate ATi driver we used Cat 8.1 to make CFX possible between these two cards:

As you can see here CFX did connect:

So what's our plan now? well simple combine his HD 2900 XTX PCI-E 1024MB GDDR4 Rev.A1 0705 with my HD 2900 XTX PCI-E 512MB GDDR3 Rev.A0 0639 and see if CFX will tend to opperate with two totally different revisions, this won't be easy and may require some tinkering with, but I will keep you all inforemed how this will proceed.

Today was a marvelous day, SR-71 Blackbird and I had an awesome deal and he let me buy his Rev.A1 0705!!!  This card has an A13 R600 Silicon and these cards were the first preview / review boards also the best and final runs of the HD 2900XTX design, the black card I have has an A11 R600 Silicon.

Here a pic of the card I am getting tonight when SR-71 Blackbird and I tested it with a production HD 2900XT 1GB RevA2 0712 in CFX and Cat drivers 8.1, CFX worked too:

    So here it is everyone , meet ATi Radeon HD 2900 XTX PCI-E 1024MB 512Bit GDDR4 Rev.A1 0705 with R600 A13 Silicon

They are Engineering Samples they are to rare to fold with rofl, nay I never fold really I research Engineering samples as other types of VPU's and GPU's, I collect them and I test games, applications and other professional programs with them it's a favored hobby of mine you see.

I do some games some times like Modern Warefare 2, the Quad SLI GTX 295 RE setup is mainly used for that, these HD 2900 XTX cards will be tested in CrossFire for the first time known in the world, since they are from two different revisions this will be most interesting if I can get that working.

I'll keep this thread updated on further progress.

As for folding it has no interest here, I am always busy researching the ways of the VPU and GPU and how some of them have been developed.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but about these support brackets, are they available anywhere, say aftermarket? My case has the slots for them.
