While waiting for the new 120Hz 4K gaming monitors, we decided to update our home theater a bit.

What we had...
LG 55" 1080P 120Hz
Onkyo TX-NR809 (AV)
Emotiva XPA-3 (Front and center Amp)
polkaudio RTi12 (2) (Fronts)
polkaudio CSi5 (Center)
polkaudio RTi4 (4) (Surrounds)
JBL ES250P (Sub)

We updated the TV and the Sub to *Update* and now the amp setup...

Sony 65X850C
Denon AVR-X4200W (As of Feb 2016)
SVS PB13-Ultra
Emotiva XPA-5
Emotiva XPA-5 (Yes two of them and removed the XPA-3)

We want to go 75-88" for the TV. That means this new 65" TV will go to the Master Bedroom once we finish with our new home (We Just  sold our previous home and plan to either build a new one this next year or buy a new one).

In the mean time the plan is to upgrade the AV unit to the new HDCP 2.2 4K requirement and a grab one of Sony's 4K players when they come out. Then we will add one set of "Height" speakers for Dolby Atom and DTS-X.

Very exciting times for home theater enthusiast right now! We can finally make our space as good as the Imax type systems.

So as of Nov 21st 2015 the HT/Audio system is...

Sony 65X850C
Denon AVR-X4200W (Will run Center and Front Hi)
SVS PB13-Ultra
Emotiva XPA-5 (Will run Two front, two surround, 1/2 of second set of surround)
Emotiva XPA-5 (Will run other 1/2 of second set of surround, all Four Height Atmos/DTX-X/3D speakers)
polkaudio RTi12 (2) (Fronts)
polkaudio CSi5 (Center)
polkaudio RTi4 (4) (Surrounds)
polkaudio RC85i (2) Front Hi
polkaudio RC85i (4) Hi Dolby Atmos/DTS-X/3D Audio

And as of this moment we are considering getting the Marantz S6010 to replace the Onkyo...

I hope you live out in the country with sub-woofer like that, if not you better live next door to deaf people.

Lol, that's not as bad as living next to a Bass player!!! :P
Hay AB, did you consider just going with a projector setup at that size? You can get some really nice setups nowadays.

Very nice sub. As mentioned, projector set ups are pretty nice these days. I wouldn't trade my projector for any normal tv and I am coming from a high end plasma.

GG, Afterburner - that sub is enormous!
Lol, I like the deal they have on the subs right now, get +1 for only $1,800 - I'm reminded a quote from the movie "Contact".

    Very nice system AB!

    Rotflmao @ that sub!

I recently picked up a used SVS PB10-NSD for $180 thinking it would be "good enough", and "not that big". First movie I watched was Hurt Locker and it blew me away.....the deepest, flattest, most amazing bass ever produced in my living room. Even my girlfriend who gave me quite the look when she saw how big it was could not believe how awesome the sub performed.

    My system.

    60" LG Plasma
    Yamaha Aventage 1050 (AV)
    Energy CF-50 (Front L/R)
    Energy CC-10 (Center)
    Energy CB -10 (Surround L/R)

I plan on adding 2 more speakers in the ceiling and enabling Dolby Atmos on the receiver eventually.

    hahahahah. Thanks all.

And to be a bit more clear on my intent with this sub and why I got it...

Eventually I will get another one. Yes, I will be running two. Here is why...

This sub is built to run at 14Hz all day every day with 1000w RMS with a peak of 3600W. Basically, what we "Feel" rather than hear. This sub is going to move "Air" in our home. Instead of "Boomy" Bass, we will get an "Accurate" impact feeling. Much more life like.

Trust me when I say... Many of us have built car audio systems trying to reach the lower bass that makes the music come to life, windows blow out and rear view mirrors to not stay on the windshields. And show without a doubt, the difference between an average system and an accurate one. This is me doing the same thing in my home theater setup.

This sub will scare the piss out of you when you least expect it to. Sounds and air/impacts that make you want to watch all your movies again and listen to your music. All like it is the first time you ever hear it.

We miss "That" much in the systems built for 22Hz and up. The bass magic is 20Hz and lower...

Nice system! I am still not sure what speaker I will add for Atom and DTS-X.

All I know for now is I will add a second set of front speakers for 3D and at least one pair for Atom/DTS-X. Maybe two. I will also be adding a seven channel amp to run them.

Nice setup. An epik empire anchors my system, and I recently upgraded to the SVS ultra tower package. It is fantastic for the price and blows my Polk rti-a9 system away.

    http://www.svsound.com/sy...tower-surround-package

If my empire ever dies, I'll get a couple SVS subs to replace it. (Multi subs is about flattening the frequency response, not loudness). Their shop is less than an hour from me and they let me hear and pick up my speakers directly from them.

I'm also running an onkyo tx-nr809 and an emotiva xpa-5.

For TV , theyll have to pry my 65" (ST60 model) Panasonic plasma from my cold, dead hands. For blu ray I'm running an oppo bdp103.

Plans are in the works for ultra high def and height speakers (SVS primr satellites), but not until both become more prolific and not before a TV technology challenges plasma picture quality for a reasonable price.

I recently moved into the house i built and built a nice theater in it. I got a Sony X910c 75 inch 4k TV and the upscale on it is insanely good. The only negative is i could have bought 6 titan x's for the price of the tv....  worth it though !

So I am looking at the SVS tower packages. For over 3 grand, I was really expecting better specs. To JustinHEMI: I had that same Plasma. It is a nice set. Beautiful blacks and a sharp picture after calibrating, Just hope nothing ever goes wrong with it because Panasonic is by far the worse company I have ever dealt with. Went to a 100" projector and never looked back.

Also, I have a 7.2 system with 2 "heights" speakers in the ceiling; Very worth it!

    Nice choice!

We build/add on to our HT system whenever possible. It is a lot less painful to add speakers one year and an amp the next. We went two year with no update this last time because we wanted the 4k tv's pricing to come down and wait for the HDCP 2.2 top be the standard.

All good info. As for your loud thoughts, exactly why I went with the PB13 Ultra. It is not about the "How loud can you go" for me. It is more about tight/hard impact/effortless and distortion free results. I may never reach half the capacity of the sub. And that is perfect in my mind.

As for projection... We played with it a few times. Until we build a "Theater" room, the projection options will not be on our list. The wife rearranges the home to often and as it is, keeping up with speaker placement is nearly a full time job. And she is a HT enthusiast! She pushed me to the PB13 instead of the PC13...

I also snagged the wireless kit for the sub. I am going to test that out.

I cannot speak for you or anyone else. However I would offer the following thoughts. I no-longer make decisions off of just specs. I have purchased the "Perfect" spec speakers, only to have them destroyed by a set half the price with lessor specs. Personally, it is best to spend a few hours, spread out over a few days mind you (To keep down on overwhelming your ears/mind) at a HT specific store or two.

Quick example... I purchased some Martin Logan 6.25 surrounds one year. Only to "Hear" the 4" version from Pioneer roast them. And to this day I have not heard a better 4" speaker...

Good luck in your hunt! The hunt is half the fun

I would have went with a Sunfire XTEQ sub. Less than 12"x12"x12" cube

I remember when the Sunfire Truesub first came out back in 1996 I think it was. It was so sweet. I could not afford the $1200 price tag at the time and went with a Mirage BPS-150. I still have it today and it is rock solid after 19 years.

With my employee discount, I wouldn't be paying anywhere near that price, which makes it MUCH more appealing.

Absolutely! I miss those times when I could pick up a product at a discount, and or get an opportunity for a "Blemished" one for nearly no $$...

Very nice sub. It just simply cannot get to the Hz I am looking for.

As a way to describe what I am speaking to...

Take any "Impact" scene form a movie. Say a car going around a corner and hits an item (Trash can, building, another car) and keeps going. We all "Hear" the impact. What this Sub does is produce the "Feel" that impact has (If recorded into the scene as true audio). As a result, not only will I hear what we all hear with much more headroom, we fell the concussion of air the sub produces to give that life like impact feeling.

As I understand it... Most subs are built for 22hz and above because the majority of the scientific world believes the human ear cannot really "Hear" below 20hz. There are some claims to hearing lower of course.

A quick example... Earthquakes are said to be around 10-15hz. We do not hear the earthquakes, we hear the damage being made.

And as such... Many "Sound" engineers have synthetically produced sounds for us to think we are hearing awesomeness in a movie. However many of today's recordings now afford truer sound fields with these synthetically produced sounds. Allowing us to enjoy closer to real life sounds from a movie or our music.

And I am simply taking advantage of this with the Sub. I already have with my mid's and hi's.

And for a little fun, like our car audio systems, this is what crazy/going to far can look like... LOL!!

I would think a common sub with some well placed bass shakers would do the same effect much cheaper... I use them in my seating areas and as a test, I turned off my 2 subs and had some people over. They all wanted to know about my subwoofer.

Of course one could! I have owned my share of "Bass Shakers"... But then I would lose the other features with this sub like... Music!

I am certainly not suggesting anyone should like our decision. It is what we chose and cannot wait to play with it. I am just offering parts of our thought process. This is two years in the making for us. We have listened to HSU's, Seatons and many others in homes and HT stores.

Bottom line for me, I wanted to build my own because I did not like the premium cost for the $3200 price for the sub I actually wanted. Once I priced out building my own, I decided the good compromise for now would be a pair of PB13-Ultras. So we purchased one to get started, in order to make sure the right decision was made.

After all, tell me how many speaker company's allow you a 45 day test and if you are not fully satisfied they pay to ship it back and give you a full refund?

I know what you mean. The sub you got is impressive. Going down to 16 hertz is nice. And I do know what you mean about feeling the impact. I never hard of SVS but I have been out of the audiophile/home theater game for so long, hence my reference to the Sunfire TrueSub from 1996. Looks like SVS is on par with Sunfire. I just know at the time, no one in the market had created a sub like Sunfire. Less than 1 cubic foot sub, down to 18hz with peak power over 2500watts. I also think at the time it was one of the first subs to use the diaphragm sub with cone excursion made to extend to 3".

Needless to say, that SVS sub you picked up is going to be awesome. This thread just brought up old memories of my home theater/audiophile phase.

Well... Just added more power to our system. Emotiva has a huge sale going on so we picked up two XPA-5's.

    Pretty stoked!

My .02 cents on this, till i see the finish product

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.
