Hi people,

I just bought a 970 sc and noticed that the fans have 0% feature and only kick in once the card hits 60c. I am not a massive fan of this feature purely because even much less demanding games temps creep up to 55/60c games like rocket league, cod 4, half life 2, csgo ect, which shouldn't be the case, I like to have my components as cool as possible. I currently have a custom fan at 20% on idle and haven't seen the gpu go over 29c on idle where as 0% fan was around the 40c. less demanding games with a 25/30% fan curve stay at 40/45c.

The first review I came across for this card didn't have this fan feature so I am wondering if there's an older bios that has a normal fan profile for this gpu? if so could I please have it :) I wouldn't have bought this card if I knew it had zero fan profile. most reviews don't mention the sc having a 0% fan feature.

you can see here the fans are at 35% idle and mentions about bios updates from evga.

Why not just use MSI AB and get it to auto-launch at Windows start? So much more safer than editing the BIOS, and it barely uses any system resources. (Don't use EVGA PX, it starts later and uses much more system resources)

To be clear, you should post the part number of your 970 SC..Certain 970's have QSD BIOS with 0dBi/Performance modes that some ppl are not even aware of (true story!).

The zero fan speed Firmware Update to address noise has been out for, and installed in 970's for a while now.

The older VBIOS where the fans do not turn off can be found here at the bottom of the list..It is the EVGA GTX 970 4096 MB SC ACX 84.04.1F.00.70 dated 2014-09-05 with 1165/1753 Core/Mem clock speeds and filename EVGA.GTX970.4096.140905.rom..Be sure that is for your card..The fan speed for that VBIOS is shown in the attachment below and has a 1230rpm minimum..EVGA Support might also be able to provide you with the original VBIOS if you contact them.

Some ppl (incl. me) do prefer to flash their card's VBIOS or modify the existing VBIOS to negate the use of software or for other purposes..Be aware that flashing the VBIOS is at your own risk and will void the warranty if you can't/don't flash back to the original/approved VBIOS should you ever need to RMA your card..The instructions on flashing your card's VBIOS can be found here..Be sure to backup a copy of your existing VBIOS using GPU-Z.

    Hope that helps.

Edit: Okay, the forums don't like attachments right now..So see the full picture.

yeah I've got a custom fan profile using afterburner just now but it would be good to just have a bios fan profile instead of having to mess about with custom profiles and having afterburner constantly running in the background because some games don't agree with it and can causes crashes ect.

If it's going to brick the card and void warranty then there is no way I am risking that, just paid for 10 year warranty for this gpu.

Does the sc edition still have that bad heat sink with the 3 cooper pipes or have they redesigned it since then and added the 5 copper heat pipes? I seen that people complained about it and they redone the heat sink for the ssc edition. I don't know if they added it to the sc models too since it's now 2016 haha.

Just set your gpu fan manually to like 70-80%, close afterburner, then play your games.

haha nah way to loud for me, even 50% sounds like a mini hoover. The max the fans go is 43% and haven't seen it go over 70c.

my fan curve is like  30c 20%
                                 35c 25%
                                 40c 30% ect ect
