Hello everyone! I am currently sporting an 132-BL-E758-A1 board with an i7-920 OC'd to 3.8GHZ. While the i7-920 is an awesome CPU still, I am seeking a little more life out of my older hardware by upgrading to an Xeon L5639. I know my board does not support this CPU out of the box and requires a modification. I've found this image of what I need to mod (attached). I just can't seem to find that it works for sure with 1.0 revision. Anyone know? Thanks!

You could check this Thread over at Kinpincooling.com http://kingpincooling.com/forum/showthread.php?t=599&page=6 Also Here is an EVGA Thread from Last Year, Stating an E758 Rev 1.0 won't work with the Mod, But a Rev 1.2 will. http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1842306 I Still have my EVGA E758 X58 SLI Rev 1.0 MB that I was going to do the Mod, But after I found out it wouldn't work and couldn't find a Rev 1.2 MB, decided to just buy an E759.

I did read one of those threads but from what I got from it, Rev 1.2 simply supports it out of the box where as the earlier revisions do not. I Have not read anywhere that they were not moddable. I did read of someone having success using the picture I attached but he/she did not say if the board was Rev 1.0 or 1.1. I think I'll just give it a shot. Worst case scenario is that it doesn't work and I'll just have to resell the Xeon.

Keep in mind that modding the board will void your warranty. If the board is still under warranty, EVGA can take your board and mod it for you, so you don't have to worry about your warranty.

I am happy to report that I successfully did the mod (it was a bit challenging for such a small component) and the motherboard is happily running an Xeon X5660!

So to perform this, you simply short the two points indicated by the arrows right?

No, what I did was detach the component that was on R538 and attached it to R539. The component is super tiny and stubborn to detach. Made harder with the heatsink and fan connector nearby. I tried using a re-flow heat gun and that was doing nothing. I removed as much solder as I could with flux on a soldering iron and just slowly nudged the component bit by bit on each side using the iron until it came free.

Just got mine done today. Seems to be working fine. While I didn't do the actual work, my wife did, she moved the resistor from R538 to R539. FYI - If you happen to lose the resistor, it's a 0 ohm resistor.

I'm waiting on an RMA of my X58n 4Way Classified and asked for them to mod it for hexcores. I was told by tech support that they do no such mod. Funny because I have seen references to the mod for $60 elsewhere on the forums.

A 'zero ohm' resistor would be a jumper.

Mod is necessary for 1.1. My attempt got delayed as the person who will be doing it is on vacation. I should have results in a couple weeks.

Mod is not to terribly difficult and is required unless you have a rev 1.2 or later

Yeah, just make sure you have a fine tip soldering iron and the one that sucks away excess solder.

As far as I've been told, we do perform the mod. If you would rather have us do it, call up or send an email to EVGA tech support, tell us which board you have, and ask for the Westmere mod. We should be able to help you through the process.

Hi. Maybe it s possible. Please look at the corner of your mother, near the pci ports. It's printed the rev of mother on it. Mine is 1.1, but when i do the mod, cpuz says rev12.

Yes. Last version of bios is the key ;-)
There is some one with a bios layout to make this xeon overclock like a beast? I ll try a layout for i7 920 in my x58 3sli and didn t work properly for the xeon. Bsod screen appears or has an erron on boot.
Any help?
