Hopper64 Thought you guys might be interested in this latest rumor on the new 1080Ti:

Saw that and a similar one a few days ago. I'm seriously just thinking about getting two hybrids in SLI and calling it good for a couple of years. But, we've been teased by rumors before so...

The only problem with step up is you can wind up with a lesser card. I'm gonna do the iCX upgrade, but my card is an FTW and not interested in a lesser 1080Ti variant.

Out of curiosity, what you mean by 'lesser'. The Ti would the a 'greater' variant.

Speculation has sometime in 2018 for Volta, and maybe some sort of refresh 2*** series later this year. Having a 4K display puts you in a wringer if you want the eye candy and FPS now.

I think he/she meant the plain vanilla Ti version, not Ti FTW. But even plain vanilla Ti will beat a 1080 FTW.

Judging how evga is only allowing iCX upgrade's up till the 28th imo confirms that nvidia will announce the 1080Ti on the 28th at the gaming event in SF. other rumors on sites state that the video card be released until mid march which makes sense compared to past announcements and releases.
im really shocked that evga is giving iCX upgrade users step up on those cards. if the rumors are true and the card does come out 3 months from say today, that means anyone that does the iCX upgrade is able to step up to the 1080Ti. that's just amazing! not only will nvidia be taking back a whole bunch of 1080's 1070's 1060's with ACX's to ship out a new card and cooler, just to be sent back in again for an upgrade is nuts. their shipping and claims department is going to be really busy these next few months with all the intake of current acx cards and then the ICX cards that they just shipped out lol. i know not everyone will step up to the 1080 Ti, but just for the fact that anyone that bought a ACX card originally is able to step up is amazing. (that is if the 1080Ti does release within the 90 day window (imo it will))
now the big question is that for step up users to the Ti. will evga provide a founders edition Ti? a iCX version (stock ref clocks) or a OEM stock low budget cooler? i just checked the evga step up page. the current step up choices for the 1080 is a ACX version or a cheap OEM style stock blower cooler. for the 1070. you can choose acx or founders edition. shocked to see the 1070 having the option for the founders edition card while the 1080 does not. thought the 1070 would have the same option for the cheaper oem cooler as the 1080 option has. Personally i don't mind having a blower style card. im 100% going to buy a EK block for it. but i can understand why people that have a acx or iCX card would want that same cooler on the ti.
remember when i stepped up my 780 to a 780 Ti. went from a acx cooler to a ref. a month or so later. evga did a limited run of titan black acx coolers as stand alone kits. and being how the 780 ti had the same PCB as the titan black, i was able to get a acx cooler for it :) judging how the titan x pascal has been out for a while and no acx cooler kit has been released. i doubt we'll see one :/ never know though. could get lucky and they sell a iCX cooler stand alone for the titan x pascal (which probably will share the same pcb layout as this 1080Ti :)) or just get the AIO watercool cooler kit

One deterrent of the Step Up would be cost. If the Ti costs $900, meaning a cost of almost $300 to Step Up, not many people will choose to do it.

very true. i have my limit set already. judging that my iCX 1080 ftw MSRP on evga is $679 USD, my limit is $150. which brings it to $829. i MAY cave if the ti costs $850 but depends. in reality. if nvidia asks for more than $799, i think they're nuts. then again. nvidia is charging 1,200 for the titan x so i should not be shocked if they ask for 900 or even a 1000

If past history is a guide, Nvidia is going to price it to maximize their profit (as they are required to do for their shareholders). It will then fall on the AIB to apply their own teasers to entice you to purchase their version - also at a cost they have determined to maximize their ROI. I know that sounds obvious but, corporations care about 'what you think it should cost' when that actually affects their bottom line...when sales decline they cut the price to reduce inventory....are we ready to leak rumors of our latest product yet?

The gap between the 1080 and Titan Pascal is even wider this time. Most 1080's were mid 600 range, and the Titan came in almost twice as much at $1200. I am guessing that Nvidia is going to land somewhere in the middle...$900ish. Way too much for me.

my guess is that the starting price will be high. and then when amd releases vega and depending on how it performs it then will drop price a little to compete. but i have a feeling that vega wont come near the performance as the ti or titan xp soo price drops would probably not be likely.
i just hope they dont price it as $1000. titan was $1000 then now its $1200. i hope they dont place these titan die cut cards at the 1000 price point. honestly. @ 1000 bucks for a ti. i would just spend the extra 200 for the titan. my guess is $850 but we'll see.

Nope! Going to wait for the EVGA GTX 2080 HC Model to be released. Link or Link Or even NVIDIA Volta in 2018.

I would really like to go for the 1080ti, but I'm thinking that the cost might just be too much. Canadian dollar kind of sucks right now so just moving from acx to icx is pricy enough. I just don't know if after that I will be able to justify a step-up after that.

Odd though, 10GB 384 Bit, if it were 320 bit it would make more sense. 10GB = 10240MB (10 x 1024MB = 10240MB) If it were 320Bit memory, for 10GB you would need: 10240MB / 320Bit = 32Bit per chip So to get 10GB 320Bit you would need 10x 1GB 32Bit GDDR5X But if the Ram bus is 384Bit things won't line up. 10240MB / 384Bit = 26.67 Bit per chip, which isn't possible.

Out of curiosity, what you mean by 'lesser'. The Ti would the a 'greater' variant.
I mean that the design is physically bigger with 100mm fans and a larger heatsink to match. The base models are all smaller. Only the FTW and Classified have the bigger pcb. Since they don't usually offer those variants as step up options, I have a hard time pulling the trigger, especially since we don't have performance numbers yet.

I dont want a 1080TI cutdown versjon. Good for the market ofc now that amd comes with new stuff, But if nvidia does not release pascal refresh or volta this year, that is so boring :P even the titan xp is a cutdown versjon, Want full with 3840cc with HMB2 or something. or just pascal refresh with 3840cc and HMB2
