I am having some pretty bad stuttering while running my 1080 FE's in SLI. Basically what happens is whatever game I am playing will stutter for about a half second, and MSI Afterburner reports a frame drop. It happens every few minutes, and you can clearly see the frame stuttering in Afterburner. Does anyone else have this issue? I have tried many things to fix it, such as doing a clean reinstall of Windows 10 Pro, reseating the cards, and switching to a standard SLI bridge (I was using a HB one). The issue seems to be less obvious when using the standard SLI bridge. I have read that this may be related to Gsync, so tonight when I am home from work, I will do testing with GSync disabled. I'll also do some testing on 120Hz instead of 144hz. For reference, this user on the GeForce forums has the EXACT same issue I'm having, with no clear solution. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/946036/sli/gtx-1080-sli-stutter-at-144hz-even-with-new-hb-sli-bridge/ Any suggestions guys? This is REALLY frustraing

Make sure you don't have something runing in the background that can cause the stutter.. it's a dead give away if it's always happening at a set time.
For me all I needed to do was have evga's precision X oc's software hardware monitor left open on the desktop. That would cause me to have a stutter every second! Close the hardware monitor and smooth as butter again.

I have a g-sync monitor as well and it's not happening at 165hz.. like I said would if I had that hardware monitor detached and on the desktop. Prob what it is. Close that and just have the osd up and you should be fine.. unless it's something else runing in the background.

The issue occurs with Afterburner OSD turned off. I'm 100% sure its not a background software related issue. Just to be sure I'll test it tonight with Afterburner completely turned off.

When the stutter occurs are your gpu clocks dropping?

No, actually. I looked at the graphs in afterburner for any correlation, and there wasn't. GPU clocks remained constant, but the split second stutter and FPS drops were there on the graphs (the Frame rate graph)

Looking back, I noticed the stuttering right after I switched out some SSDs and went with two Intel 535s in RAID 0. I wonder if that has anything to do with it..

Yup the answer is usually "what do you last change when you noticed the new issue?"
Could be the drivers or software controlling that raid controller.

Could be, however I never updated or changed the software/drivers for the RAID array when I swapped the drives.

Does the issue occur on all gpu drivers available? Issue only occurs when sli is enabled? Have you tried testing each set of sli fingers with a ribbon style sli bridge?

It only occurs when SLI is enabled, and when a game has a proper SLI profile. In one of my games, for instance, Mirrors Edge catalyst, it uses alternate frame rendering 2 and the issue doesn't occur. I also don't notice it during synthetic benchmarks such as unigine heaven or firestrike. It happens the most on games that allow me to reach 144 FPS constantly, such as battlefield 4 or sniper elite III.

Agreed. Like I said before, on games that are a little older and allow me to hit 144FPS average, I noticed the issue occuring. In the NVCP, I have VSync set to Application Controlled and run it thru whatever game I am playing. If I switch them, (ON in the NVCP and OFF in whatever game I'm playing), the issue occurs. I read somewhere about setting a frame limit 1 FPS below your max refresh rate, i.e. 143FPS on a 144Hz monitor. I might try that.

Quick update: Uninstalled Afterburner, installed Precision X. Same issue. Disabled G-Sync and set to Fixed Refresh: Problem fixed. So it appears to be a Gsync-related problem.

Hmm. Maybe it's your monitor? I have no issue playing older games that run at 144 fps on my 144Hz monitor with g-sync enabled.

I'd try a different 144hz g-sync monitor if you can. I'd also report the problem to nvidia. You can file a report here.

Another update. As I said earlier, I remember that I noticed the stuttering once I installed the Intel SSDs. I removed the Intel ones and put back in my old Kingston Hyper X models. Reinstalled the latest drivers (372.90), and then redownloaded and fired up Sniper Elite 3, with the monitor on G-Sync mode. Here are the results. The two major spikes at the beginning and end are from me loading up and then exiting the game. As you can see, the framerate in between the spikes is pretty much at a constant 144 FPS, with a two small dips into the 130 territory (which I did not notice as a "stutter"). As far as I can tell, the stuttering was from the Intel SSDs in RAID 0. I noticed an immediate improvement after putting in the Kingston models. Go figure. Back when SSDs were still fairly new I had similar issues with striped SSDs ("RAID" 0). Some drives don't work well striped together, and others just need a different driver to make things work better.
