My 1070 FTW needs 2x8 pin and my PSU the SFX SX600 has room for a single PCIe cable that is a 8/6 connector. I have tried the Y cable adapter that comes with the 1070 FTW by plugging the 8pin from the PSU into the card then attaching the 6 pin part of the adapter to the the 6 pin cable on the PSU and the 8pin part of the adapter into the card. It stil tells me on boot to plug in PCIe connectors. What am i doing wrong with the adapter and what are my other options. Is my PSU not compatible with this card?

Based on your description, yes the PSU is not compatible with the card.  But based on the spec of the PSU on NewEgg's website, it has two 6+2 pin cables.  Perhaps you just got an earlier version of the PSU that had one 6 pin and one 6+2 pin.  You may want to contact Silverstone and see what they say.  Otherwise downgrade the graphics card to a GTX 1070 vanilla, SC or SSC as they all only take one 8 pin (6+2 pin) power connection.

Ok, yeah I'm going to try and contact silverstone tomorrow and see what they say. Newegg lists the PSU as having a PCI-Express Connector 2 x 6+2-Pin but I def only have a 2x 8/6 pin. Also is there a reason why the adapter wouldn't work, something to do with my PSU rail voltage?

The card knows it doesn't have voltage at all the pins. If your using a single 6 pin on the adapter your only powering 6 of the 8 pins going into the GPU leaving 2 of them unpowered and the GPU knows it doesn't have enough full power.

Definitely contact Silverstone and see what's up. The PCI-e cable config you have e is the same as their ST45SF-G PSU (the size under yours). So it maybe that your PSU was boxed with the wrong cable set. Or maybe your PSU was boxed wrong all together. Check the numbers on the PSU and box and make sure everything matches.

The problem is I've had this power supply for at least a few months. I didn't notice the discrepancy because before I had a 980 Ti sc which required a 8 pin / 6 pin connector so it worked perfectly. I'll still contact them though and see what they say, maybe I can get them to send me the dual 6+2 connector. Also just for reference this is the adapter I was using

Your right I only have one of the 6 pin adapters connected so it makes sense that its not working. For some reason I thought since the 8 pin part of the adapter was plugged into the gpu it would make it work lol.

They should get you taken care of. I've dealt with Silverstone in the past with one of their big PSU's and didn't have a problem. I wouldn't think this would be an issue. Even though you've had it for a little while once you explain the issue they should send the proper cables. The down side is that your going to be down a little longer unless you still have that 980Ti to use in the mean time.

Stupid phone double posting. If a mod wants to mess with it, this post can be deleted.

This is actually for my brothers computer i helped him build a couple of years ago. I told him to upgrade to the 1070 FTW since I figured he could sell the 980 Ti for around the same price as the 1070 costs. Now I feel kinda guilty since I didn't bother checking the pcie connector requirements for the 1070 even though in my own system with a 1080 FTW I know it has 2x 8. It was only after the fact when I checked his PSU i realized it didn't have the proper connectors. I would just give him one of my 2x 8 connectors but I have a Corsair HX850i PSU. For now ill just let him use my system to game n hopefully I can fix this issue.

Silverstone explained that they recently updated the SX600-G to include the dual 8 pin connector that's why I didnt get one when I originally purchased it in October 2015. They were nice enough to send me one tho so the problem is solved.
