Hi Guys

I have been scouring the forums and the interblag for the answer to this question however I can't find anything with regards to the reference style 980's.

I'm currently looking for a second SC card to go with my 980 SC ACX 2.0 card in SLI (mATX mobo, so no slot for a dual ACX config), and want to know whether the thermal performance of the 1982 is better than the 2982 or vice versa.

Both of these cards are GTX980 SC reference cards and have the same performance on paper, however the 1982 has a different cooler (the shroud is different so Im assuming the heatsink/fan arrangement may be different) to the 2982.

@EVGA Any data to support whether one has better thermals under the same load than the other would be greatly appreciated :D

Cheers

Unfortunately, the different cooler styles cannot SLI together. For a list of our 970s, and what they can SLI with, please see our FAQ on the subject, located here: https://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59534 .

Thanks for replying James, however my question was in regard to the 980 cards, not the 970's.

My mistake, I misread. That being the case, those two cards should SLI; these restrictions only apply to the GTX 970 series, as far as I'm aware.

Thats good to know! So seeing as there are no constraints with the SLI configuration, what is the difference in terms of thermal performance between those two cards?

The ACX card will cool a little better, owing to the fact that it has two fans. Beyond that, the temp differences shouldn't be too great, but I don't have any hard numbers as there's a few other variables there, including airflow in your case and ambient temps, among others.

Hi James, thanks for your help but I feel you are misinterpreting my question.

I'm specifically asking about the differences between the 04G-P4-1982-KR vs 04G-P4-2982-KR.

I would like to know the difference between those two cards, rather than the (obvious) aesthetic and that the 2982 is $50 more expensive.

A teardown of the two cards would also be ideal if you have that information available to you.

I assume that the lack of responses means that no one knows?

The only difference between the two cards is aesthetics.
