    The active backplate is too big to fit in the first PCI slot. The GPU will operate just fine in the second slot if you decide to use the active backplate on a 3090.

    You have an active backplate on a 3090 FTW3 and a z690 Kingpin? Can you show a picture of how close the fit is between the active backplate and the heat sink on the motherboard?

    Yeah, that isn’t an active backplate. The active backplate has a lot more height to it than a standard backplate. It absolutely wouldn’t fit there.

    Then he would end up running the card at X8 and not X16

    That is not an active backplate. That is a passive backplate, which is why you have a fan blowing over it. The active backplate has a waterblock on it, making it significantly thicker, and it would hit the heat sink above the GPU. This definitely answers the question for anyone with the Kingpin motherboards:

    Height without activebackplate 27mm:

    Height with active backplate is 41mm:

    The extra height goes toward the CPU to fit the active backplate.

    Should work perfectly fine. The Kingpin board adheres to the intel specification for keep out zones and tolerances, so this should work perfectly fine for you.

    At the time I got mine no one had the Gold one in stock.

    I did have to CUT Out the Motherboard Tray to install the Back Plate.

    No, it will run only at X8, Bummer I know. Even the z790 is the same way.
    We need the Next Gen X299 to run at X16 on more than 1 Slot*.
    * Intel that is.
