i was moving my pc into a new chassis and all said and done, it won’t post. the post codes are giving me a “C” CPU error among normal memory checks and a 7f and the funny thing about that is i never took the cpu out. i just moved it along with the aio into the new chassis. i unplugged everything except the 8pin atx power, 12 pin power, and cooler pump and fans. i originally tried it with my gpu in, but it won’t post so i can’t even tell if it sees the gpu, and i tried multiple gpus.

i’m wondering if maybe i hit the cmos button when putting it into the io shield, and if so would it revert bios to a revision that might not support the 9900ks i’m running. it’s all i can think of without the random “it just broke while not being used” which seems unlikely.

any ideas?

i don’t know if the cpu died or the mobo died. like i said, i never removed the cpu or cooler for the swap.

Reseat the CPU and RAM is what I would do.

    Troubleshooting Recommendations:
    • Reseat everything, double check all of your power connectors to the motherboard, the CPU power at the top left and the 24 pin.
    • Make sure your motherboard is on risers in the case, if it's in direct contact on the back of the motherboard, it could cause a short.
    • Pull all of your RAM out and start testing with 1 stick, I would start with the DIMM furthest away from the CPU socket.
    • If you have multiple power supplies, make sure you didn't use a modular power cable from the other one. Modular cables are not universal.

No, pressing the clear CMOS button - Only resets the BIOS to factory default Settings.

You would have to Move the BIOS switch to change the BIOS to what ever version is loaded in the second position

--> post codes are giving me a “C” CPU error --> Usually power to CPU

    - though when moving the MB with cooler attached, it is possible that the AIO put pressure on the CPU socket - checking for bent pins is your last step

Check that All standoffs are in the correct place & no extra ones are under your MB - possibly causing a short

ok update. i tried re seating the ram like i said and that didn't work. i canibalized my girlfriends pc, tried my cpu in her board, and that worked, so i tried that set up with my PSU and that worked. so i put my cpu back together and tried it again and it wasn't working, so obiously i was set on the board being the problem. as a last though, even though i re seated all the ram earlier, i pulled the ram from dim slots 1 and 3 and then it fired right up. my next step after posting this is to rotate units and see if the other two are bad or if maybe the slots are. either way, i'm just glad my CPU isn't dead, its impossible to find another one for original price.

    thanks all!

it turns out that all the ram sticks work. i can run dim 2 and 4, then move those over to 1 and 3 and they still work. i can switch to the other two sticks and do the same and they still work. all sticks work. however they no longer work together. i can no longer run dual channels which is weird because it was the same exact setup i had before.

Are all of the ram sticks from the same kit, or are the from two separate kits?

actually they are separate now that you mention it. but they’re all the same clock and speed and worked before i swapped cases.

Sounds like one of the channels on the board went bad, possibly shorted when moved. I'd RMA the board.

That still doesnt mean they are compatible when used together. Clockspeed is just one spec, timings can have a big effect and the list goes on. Mixed RAM is just one more variable.

I don't recommend mixing different kits together. It's most likely your issue.
