Hi guys. So i built a system for my daughter.

x99 micro bios 1.18 I think. (what i got from evga)
xeon 2678 v3
1 bar 8 gb ram in slot 1
sata boot ssd
gpu, 1650
win pro 64 pro

Right off the bat the system did not want to boot. Bios where reset and battery removed and reset before starting anything. Bios are untouched with everything stock. Kept restarting system until i got a message that bios checksum failed and to continue or go into bios. Tried both options but continue seemed to work and got a boot to install a fresh windows off the windows flash key that i have. After install, system will not boot into windows or boot of the ssd.

Went into bios and tried all the combination in boot order, nothing helped. System would not boot into windows.

So went back into bios and changed it from legacy to uefi and everything worked.

So to my problem now. Every time the computer is shut down or turned off. Bios go back to legacy and my system will not boot until i go back in to bios and change it to uefi.

I am thinking of flashing the bios to 2.08 but i am afraid to brick the board.

I am thinking part of the bios got corrupter somehow thus i am getting the checksum error and the bios wont save my options. Or is this a known problem and i need to update the bios?

What do you guys think?

Might want to replace the CMOS battery first before anything else.

Nothing wrong with the board, just sounds like the battery died on it which is why it's forgetting the UEFI setting.

Have water, will cool.

Glad that you figured it out. They usually last several years, but when stuff starts getting wonky - it's time to replace it :P

The BIOS setting - Legacy -VS- UEFI ... depends on how you had it When you Installed Windows

Good to see you figured out you setting & it seem to be a dead CMOS battery
