Hello all, first off hello! I am new to the forums.

My problem is i have had a x58 FTW3 for about 5 years now never overclocked, never had a problem, Until now.
I registered my product when i received it but now it doesn't show on my account.

Yesterday i playing a game when it just froze, went to reset it by hand and noticed a wire burning smell after looking it looks like the bios chip melted? Now its just stuck at FF.
I tried to contact evga but i dont have the old box and i cant find the serial number or info they need.

I guess im out of luck huh? I dont understand why the bios chip would just melt like that. I guessing im long out of warranty which mean im out of luck. Im looking for more info if i could get it replaced or what happened? Thanks ahead.

serial numbers should be ona sticker on the Board, If you can remember where you purchased it, some on-line places retain the invoices for a number of years, You need to check if youy purshased a A1 model, which has a lifetime warranty, or a 3 or 5 year model, All the same board, Just differant warenties, desagnated by the last two digits of the model number! A1's had lifetime warranty, only for the original Purchaser, and you will need to prove you are the original purchaser!

you can also check with your credit card issuer, But would need the card number and the aproxamate purchase date, Most Credit card companies, and Banks, only go back a year or two, Then transfer the information to Microfilm, so getting them to assist can be a real PIA, and take weeks of waiting, Some companies even Bill for reserch time, unless you produce a court order. Comp usa would only be abble to assist you if you made the purchase on one of their credit cards, otherwisw they would refear you to your CC company! Me I always scan my recipts and save them to paper-port on another computer, and then back them up on my Main, But thats because I right off depreciation with the IRS on any Busness use of the system, and they require you to retain records for 7 years incase of a Audit! I also save the original Box incase I have to send them in for warantee, or if I decide to sell them on E-bay....For some reasion people will pay more if it is in the original Box!

You should contact EVGA regardless, especially if the BIOS chip can be replaced by you. Could be they could send you a new BIOS chip (probably a lot cheaper than a new MB).
You could also try this seller on ebay (mentioned on HardForum).
http://www.ebay.com/usr/biosdepot

But still, if the BIOS chip is the problem, what caused it to burn up? It could be that some other part of your motherboard has gone bad, and therefore passed too many volts/amps/whatever* to the BIOS chip. If you replace the BIOS chip, it could burn up the new one.

$16
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIOS-CHIP-EVGA-X58-FTW3-132-GT-E768-KR-132-GT-E768-TR-/260893896876

May be worth a shot.

Also, maybe you registered your motherboard under a different user name or email address? Try "Password recovery" link with every email address you've ever used.
https://secure.evga.com/US/forgotpassword.asp

EDIT - I see that the BIOS chip must be soldered to the board. Probably not too difficult, as the pins are rather large. Used boards seem to be between $150-$250 on ebay, so $16 may still be a decent chance to fix it. Depends on how handy you (or someone you know) is with a soldering iron.

The FTW3 BIOS is replaceable in a clam shell holder. No soldering required. However, a smoked BIOS chip is very unlikely. It's probably some other component. The BIOS is located in the clam shell holder with the white sticker right above the battery.

Thanks for the correction HeavyHermi. The ebay store listing said it was to be soldered on, but maybe this is a boilerplate text which they put on every listing.

I'm not really sure it's the actual BIOS chip itself which has caused the problem, either. It's up to you if you want to take a $17 gamble with an ebay BIOS chip to see if that's really the problem, or buy a used board, or sell your LGA 1366 chip and RAM and buy a new system. Each choice has it's pros/cons.

If you have no box, no serial number, and no history of registering your board on evga.com, then support options with EVGA are slim. I don't think they do repairs.

No, bought one off ebay and just need a resistor soldered back on. No dice, but there are a few that work on motherboards on this site but dont remember who ! Still need mine fixed. If you decide to get newer style board send me a PM. On how much you might want for 980 X still have 1 board wth 920 in it, would be nice to upgrade.

Hi guys,
I noticed the error, as I understand the bios chip can be completely replaced? But I have another idea, namely:
reflash on the programmer, but for this you need to have a complete dump of the bios chip and to know what kind of chip?

There's a handful of people that still use the 1366 platform. And nowadays they don't go for much. I know I just picked up a x5650 for $70, now I have a decent hex core that does perform well. Its really only like 10%-15% behind even the current gen stuff. Personally, I'm not going to drop the money into a x99 because its not exactly a big boost for a lot of cash. And my normal use will not benefit from it all that much.

In my personal opinion the X58 platform was one of Intel's best and you can still get good performance from those motherboards especially if you overclock.
