I got the notification for 3080 12gb, for the modest price of, (after taxes shipping etc) 1567€ (1720$) went to amazon and bought a 3080 TUF OC 10GB for 1013€, why does evga charge so much on the 12gb? 550€ for 2gb more and a few more cores doesnt really seem worth it I was really hoping that buying directly from manufacturer would reduce overpricing

Hello Sir Petus, The price on 3080 12GB models across the board is this high because when NVIDIA shadowreleased it (aka didn't come out with an FE or a pricing for such), AIBs like EVGA or ASUS have had the opportunity to put their own pricing on the cards instead of flexibly adjusting to what NVIDIA would put out. There might be some internal communication between NVIDIA and the AIBs suggesting some baseline price that the public never heard of (this is likely why you see roughly the same price between different AIB models for 3080 12GB), but at the end of the day it was an opportunity for all of them to ask more as people are willing to pay more. Now if you can buy a 3080 10GB (and we have plenty available still in EU), they are coming back down nicely in prices. Ofcourse i do see that you already did, so i guess it's moot. Hope that shed some light to the situation!

There have also been wafer manufacturing price increases which might also have impacted pricing.

The GPU on the 3080 12gb is not the same GPU as the 3080 10gb. The 3080 12gb has more cuda cores unlocked, and has more memory, making it more valuable overall.

I have to agree. The 12 gigger is price way too high compared to the 10 gigger for a little boost. I got my 3080ti ftw3 ultra for barely more money from the wait list.

It's also probably to prevent them from instantly selling out. The original 3080 release price was an amazing value and quickly sold out with room to market up prices considerably. Now with the 3080 12GB you can find them for sale form trusted vendors which is a lot better than someone selling it online that may just send you a box with a brick inside of it.

You also get actual tech support and customer service with the EVGA cards, something you won't get with the cheaper brand.

People spend years in business school trying to learn this but I will let you in on the secret. All corporations are in it to make money. Everything they do serves this one goal. Here we see Nvidia put out a product with a price they think they can get away with. The original RTX 3080 with MSRP of $699 and they see that the product sells for twice the money. So they put out an "Improved" version that gives a 1-5% performance bump for almost double the price.

maybe I watched the wrong tests, but there was a difference on 1-3 fps on games, less than 3070 - 3070 ti had to justify a 50% price increase for 2% gains

So initially I was in the market for a 3080 this week and originally purchased a Rog Strix 3080 12 gigger for $1590 plus tax with a final sale price of $1695!! Once I got home with the card buyers regret set in and not to mention the Strix 3080 had the worse case of coil whine I have ever ran across..This particular coil whine was so high pitched that I could here the sound over my headphones. Upon further research after jumping back on the Microcenter website, a flood of EVGA 3080ti's popped up and I instantly went back to Microcenter and returned the Rog for the EVGA Ultra 3080ti and couldn't be happier😊 Why is it that we have so many GPU's in the market all of sudden? Is it because the current batch of GPU's have low hash rates and miners are disinterested? Either way I am thankful we have some shopping options now and graphics cards are now back in stock at Microcenter and other retail stores.

That may be helping things. Nvidia recently got hacked, and the hackers demanded that Nvidia unlock the hash rates or they'd release all of the stolen material from the hack. Increases in capacity, along with supply chains slowly getting sorted out have helped, I'm sure. There may also be some 3xxx burn out, and people have decided to wait on the 4xxx cards. All sorts of things in the mix, I imagine.

It's the lack of miners buying them. GPU availability almost instantly improved when crypto prices tanked and mining profits went with it. You can easily see it when you look at how the ethereum hashrate/difficulty has leveled off. https://2miners.com/eth-network-difficultySwitch to the 1 year plot.
