Which piece of hardware has the highest failure rate for you?

Out of all the systems i have built over the past decade, the GPU seems to have the highest failure rate for me. I have yet to do a RMA for mobo, PSU, RAM, CPU or even a AIO CPU cooler.

For me it seems to be fans. I usually have to replace 1-2 fans a year.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

After thinking about this for awhile, other than a few fans going bad, I can't think of anything else failing in 9 yrs or so.  I still have motherboards (750i, 780i), GPU's (two 8800's, 8600, many others), CPU's (Q9650) as examples still in use today on a daily basis.

Anything older than that is no longer in use.  Not due to any failures, just no longer needed.

I have killed my fair share of Mobos and GPUs.  Most of the mobos were due to a cooling failure and the GPUs were more of a manufacturer defect issue (sorry EVGA).  I have lost a GTX590, two GTX480's, several GTX470's, and a GTX Titan for video cards that I have bought and used.  As far as mobos.  Multiple 775 socket mobos including an ECS p38, DFI X48, EVGA 680i, and some asus something or other, then several EVGA X58 mobos (4 or 5).

What I seem to "kill" are DVD drives.  They seem to work for reading, but I have to be very careful when burning a disk.  I have had several drives that look like they burn and it verifies, but when you look at the bottom of the disk you can see where it fades for half an inch and then gets dark again.  And then it doesn't read in another drive.  Ive replaced a dozen over the last 5-6 years.

Years ago - quite a few HDD failures, but since switching to SSD that hasn't been an issue.  In the last 4 years I've had 3 Motherboards and one 980ti Classy die.

Mechanical hard drives were always failing for me. Then GPU Followed by Motherboard. My current build has been Rock solid though, first build I didn't use EVGA cards or motherboard in 10 years. Might just have to keep same brands for next build.

I've lost a lot of mechanical hard drives; the worst was the Velociraptor X where you could actually see where the head crashed. Perfect triangle right in the middle of the platter.

It's a toss up between motherboards, (all ASUS), HDD's and fans, especially the sleeve bearing type.  But I expect fans to fail, so usually have several on hand for that event.

Have had a GPU fail as well as a HDD. Never had a fan flat out stop, but have had them start making more noise. Out of the 12 fans I just replaced, I had three I would not want to put back to use for one reason or another.

Case - Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X
    Mobo - EVGA X570 FTW
    CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

I've pretty much only had hard drives fail. I've had errors with GPU's in the past, but that's it.

Technically I've had a GPU die (my old GTS 450), but it died in storage, not while in use. I have no idea what happened, I assume static, even though I kept it in the anti static bag and box my new card came in *shrug* If it weren't for that whole debacle I had upgrading RAM (of all things) I wouldn't even know.

That being said, I haven't had a ton of computers, and I've only really been getting into them (and PC gaming) for the past two years; but I did have a few computers growing up (for more casual gaming, internet, and such), and on the older ones the hard drives are what died. The one before my current rig, which I've had for 8 or 9 years still works afaik (technically it was half my older brother's, and when we got an upgrade, I let him have it, no idea if he still uses it).

Had a few different things fail, but hdd the most, but only after they lived a long life. Have had a mb fail ever since everyone stated using good capacitors again, but the bad cap issue killed psu's and video cards also.

Tough question.  I've had a lot of HDD failures, but then again, I have 27 hard drives between three systems.  I've also killed more fans than I can count by not cleaning my cases.  Never killed a single GPU or CPU, only two motherboards, so yeah, I guess HDD.

It's been a while since I've really dealt with much hardware failure. In the past it was power supplies for me. I've dealt with quite a few pieces of hardware failure, oh and multiple slap in face RMA's that send you a bad replacement. Buying and selling hardware so often I would have to RMA a lot to get good deals on stuff because people didn't want to deal with the process...

My Crucial 960gb drive randomly stopped working but I paid to have a data recovery center get everything off it - reformatted it and it works fine now. I just store my games on it now.
