Is it possible to re-use my i3 2100T in the Evga Z270 series? Would upgrade cpu at later date.

Hello and welcome to the forums! That i3 2100T CPU is only for socket 1155 motherboards. The Z270 is designed for socket 1151 processors (6th or 7th generation only) and is not compatible with that i3 CPU you have.
