Hi guys

Been reading for a couple of days now, and I can't seem to find the definitive answer I'm looking for.

I recently got a hold of an EVGA nforce 790i FTW Digi motherboard, and I want to build a computer. I have a Q9650 I can use with it, so that's super.

I've been trying to find a 8Gig set of RAM for it, which seems to be quite the feat. I've been reading the guide on doing so, but I've had a hard time finding exampls of people making it working and posting what RAM they're using. I can see it's a good idea to find a set of 4x2Gig sticks that have been tested as a four stick set.

So, in short. Will this work in a 132-YW-E180-A1: http://www.corsair.com/memory-3/dominator/dominator/cmd8gx3m4a1333c7.html
How about this: http://www.corsair.com/memory-3/dominator/dominator/cmp8gx3m4a1600c8.html

If not, what do I need to know? And even if yes, feel free to educate me.

Thanks in advance.

I would not recommend either of those sets of RAM as they are low-voltage (1.6v and 1.65v) and do not work well on the 790i as, it "likes" higher voltage RAM...1.8v-2.0v works best. Also, if you do not have a real need to run 8GB's of RAM...4GB's (2x2) works best.

Unfortunately, proper RAM for this board is very hard to come by these days since, they are both past EOL. If I had to buy RAM today...I would say that these would be your best bet:

Thanks a lot for the prompt response.

However, I do want the 8Gig. I thought the low voltage thing became less of an issue, the more sticks you used.

Would it, in your opinion, be better to use two 2x2 kits like the one you linked, than a single low voltage 4x2Gig kit?

I understand there's also an issue with running two 2x2 kits at a high frequency.

    Thanks again

I do not know how to make my explaination of the module voltage any plainer...the 790i MoBo's need higher voltage RAM to run properly...no matter how much you are using.

Yes, if you must have 8GB's...you will need to buy 2 of those kits I linked....as far as I know, they do not sell them in 8GB kits.

I have no idea what you are speaking of on this....what issue??  I have no issues:

Your answer was plenty clear the first time. I just want to be absolutely sure I understand what's going on.

I'm having trouble finding Patriot RAM in the stores and webshops I usually use. Do you think these will do the trick?

the ones JeffreyHam linked earlier work perfect on my 790i ultra with 8 gigs. Running them at 1800mhz with 9-9-9-24 timings at stock voltage. Id highly recommend. Good price too!

    Thanks Bookshelf

I'm now looking for a place in the EU that has them. If I buy from newegg I have to pay the toll to have them shipped into the EU.

Oh and how about these bad boys?

You would have a better chance of being able to run these with stability than those OCZ stix....IMHO.

I remember hearing alot of bad things about ocz ram.. if you don't want the patriots, then like Jeffery said, your best bet would be the crucials you linked. Evga has a memory compatibility list in their support tab. It has quite a few mem mods listed there... keep in mind, these boards DO NOT like low voltage memory.
