HELP!!! I don't know what to do, started smelling something strange an hour ago, then got an all green screen, then FF error code, now pump and some fans not working...is this a bad power supply or did I just lose my 759 Classy? Where do I start?

My 759 is gone forever...

Do you have a spare PSU ? That would be the easiest thing to test, If the strange oder is acrid, and acidic, it could be a leaking capacator, Try to Follow you nose.

Sounds like the PSU rolled over and died. Smoke? That is a good indication unless your water cooling busted out a leak. Then I think pretty much everything might have gone bad.

No leak, I would say 95% chance your psu just gave out.

Probably the "smell" is the PSU as far as both people said. My old PSU did that while I was playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R: SoC or doing other intensive applications back in my old system.

But follow the smell. That's how I found out the problem.

The smell Friday night was coming from the memory area of the m.b.; Had to work Saturday, went to the lake with family after, was too tired to mess with it last night, so I'm about to swap the p.s. and am keeping my fingers crossed that it's that. I'm not sure, but I know one last try at booting yesterday before work it was at the point that not even the lcd poster had any display, neither pump working, and the few fans I saw work for the 10 sec I had it on were flickering repeatedly, so, I guess just have to dive in. I'm thinking if it's the m.b. I'll buy the 760 on sale at Tigerdirect for $350 and not have to switch water blocks, because from what I remember last year when I built it the Koolance works on all versions of the Classified. The sad thing is I did'nt get the m.b. registered within 30 days, (I was late by 1, YES, ONE day!!!) so the m.b. is out of warranty according to my EVGA account.  REGISTER YOUR PRODUCTS ON TIME PEOPLE!!! I'll update later, wish me luck!

FWIW, it looks like a short between the 3.3 VDC line [pin 2] and the COMMON (Ground) [pin 3] lines.

I have no idea what could have caused it though.

    Good luck!

I'm still waiting to hear back from EVGA to find out if the m.b. is covered under warranty, any ideas how to test the power supply and find out if it's good or bad...it's only a month old, had the exact same model before, had random screen freezing since before xmas with old 280's and then with my new 480's, tried everything to fix, ended up replaceing the psu, THAT problem went away, everything has been running great, then Friday night I'm playing Metro 2033 and started smelling the odor (I'll never forget that smell) and then it slowly over the next 15 min. or so started acting real weird so I shut down 'till this morning start pulling the power supply to swap in ol 850 watt to test and found the damage. I don't know if I suspect the psu because when I noticed the smell the game and whole computer were running fine, no obvious glitches or freezing or anything, then I shut the game down after a couple minutes and started investigating. I'd hate to install the psu on whatever m.b. I end up getting next if it caused the problem! There never was any smoke or anything else to indicate something major, I thought one of the fans on the top rad was going out, due to the smell coming out the top.

for your plug to melt like that it means you have resistance at that pin. why? well, a couple things cause resistance. heat is a big factor. heat causes resistance and resistance causes more heat, and around and around we go...till your plug starts melting!! thats prob the smell you were smelling was the sweet aroma of plastic boiling on your plug. broken pins that arent broke all the way, can cause that. galvanic corrosion can cause that, but prob shouldnt on a mobo and psu inter- connect though cause there usually gold or copper plugs. pull the wires apart that melted and see what the pins look like that are involved. this kind of thing is something thats more commonly associated with modular psu's, but the problem usually is on the psu end and not the mobo. i would def be doing a more in depth investigation.... theres def a reason....something made that happen!! \m/

Couldnt that be caused by a weak connection between the connections?  As in the the guy clearly removed all the wires to wrap them and the 1 or 2 was'nt all the way seated in the connector and casued it to get hot?

I had a car radio plug get hot and melt, because of a bad connection inside the plug, and I think you had the same problem.

If you look at the 6th picture from the top, the second female pin is split open slightly, this would cause a bad connection.

Also, plugs are not usually the weakest link, so for it to melt, before a component burns out, pretty much narrows it down to a bad pin connection inside the plug.

I hope every thing works out for you
