This may be the main reason Nvidia is backing off with 480GTX benchmarks on the 26th to rewrite those cheap slides they made as Legit Reviews ran some benchs with the up coming driver  ("yo, Fermi, grease up and bend over" - Best Quote by AMD ever)

DAMN! 19% on HAWX from that driver... I am impressed.

Good improvement in Heaven and STALKER as well.

    lol this kills me

"We've spent some time last night and this morning benchmarking the Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5 video card using CATALYST 10.2 drivers and then again with CATALYST 10.3a drivers to see how the performance looks with this new driver build. We'll also be re-benchmarking all our our Radeon HD 5000 series graphics cards as a result of these drastic changes. "

So they are saying we haven't tested anything but we are going to state a fact and say

"ATI Brings The Hurt To NVIDIA With CATALYST 10.3"

Total flame bait story ..no facts (im sure there will be soon but still nothing but speculation that newer is going to be better by default)

Hate to say this about legit reviews but this guy who wrote the article sounds completely bias and a total ATI fan by his choice of wording .Either way good for ATI a new driver is good for both camps as it keeps them both striving to be better

I read the whole article, they showed their numbers and the improvements are there in everything except Arkham Asylum.

I'm not sure what you mean by no facts, the article was probably written over time to detail the course taken. Then given a title afterward.

Besides, we all know sensationalist titles sell.

the article comes out and says

ATI Brings The Hurt To NVIDIA With CATALYST 10.3

And the writer makes it sound like this driver w/5000 series  verses the gtx480 story ,when actuality all it is a driver update story
his first lines out of the gate are ...

If you follow gaming graphics cards you know that ATI and NVIDIA are getting ready for a fierce battle on March 26th when NVIDIA will be releasing their new GeForce GTX 480. The GeForce GTX 480 will be the first desktop consumer graphics card that is based off the long awaited GF100 'Fermi' core, which means that NVIDIA will finally enter the DirectX 11 market for the very first time. Keep in mind that AMD's ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card was launched on September 21, 2009! That means that NVIDIA is coming to the game over 6 months behind ATI!  The ATI Radeon HD 5870 has proven itself to be a great graphics card over the past six months and thanks to monthly driver updates, it just keeps getting better.

It's just poor journalism IMO.Twisting a story and making it out to be alot more then it really is .Ya sensationalist would be a good term here as he ruins  his posting Nvida ( truthful but still tacky as most anyone who knows about GPU's knows this already )slams .That didnt need to be even in this story about a new Driver update.Hell imagine if every Nvida driver got this kind of write up with ATI slams and jabs in it ? O the ATI fans would be a crying about it for ever (or 2 weeks when another Beta/whql comes out lol)

Like i said good For ATI a new driver benefits both camps in the end game

    Best part of this article

During our conversation with AMD this morning, we also got a heads up that in the next few days an ATI Crossfire profile update is in the works for Battlefield2: Bad Companythat will increase performance by up to 75%!

You know, in my opinion I would wait to compare benchmarks with new drivers till the Fermi card is actually OUT. I mean who knows what kind of optimization they may be working on for this brand new card. That's just my two cents though. Regardless I'll be buying the nvidia card for folding.

All i really got out of it and what we all really should is that it just cuts into Nvidia's 10-15% lead that we all keep hearing about .. so it may be hard to show a clear cut winner or one is as good as the other and it will not look like 4870 vs 280gtx this time around as Ati has made the most ground up on this race for the crown..

Thank goodness for this early driver, I just got a new laptop with a mobile 5870 that didn't come with a driver so this beta came just in time for me.  Their first attempt at generic mobile driver is working out well for me knock on wood :)

The modern video graphics adapter is really unified and programable if any and all performance enhancements to come solely from software driver updates during the primary cycle.  It is impressive.  Sometimes I wonder whether these graphics cards have the headroom pre-applied by design and ATI/nVidia gives out a little bit of improvement at a time, as there really is no reason to push it.  What if competition is able to gain an upper hand while your product is already maxed and everyone knows it?  We don't want that, yay for drivers.

Umm.... the site showed results using the old drivers and then listed the new drivers.  What good is a choppy video gonna do in 'proving' anything?  I mean unless the maker of the review is a known faker of data.... I'd say that this shows a fine example of 10.2 vs 10.3a.  Not gonna say anything about GTX 470/480 vs 5870/5970 because this review is aimed at something totally else.  Everything else is the same old speculation we see running rampant everywhere.

When i bought my card back in Nov i ran Vantage with it and short after Ati released a driver that gave me 1000+ boost on the gpu score so i was impressed back then and if i remember right Ati stated (for Nvidia back in Dec) that there cards was not yet at full power ..

so i would say they have backed up there word but from what i understand Crossfire is the one that will see alot of speed as Dirt 2 was 30% faster for the 5970 .

It will be interesting to see if Nvidia has a counter Driver in the works to keep there 10-15% lead over the 5000series on there GT400 line up.

LOL.  I bought my 5870 expecting to meet Jesus himself when it arrived.

Well,  nice card, but it isn't that much better than my GT 280SSC.    I would call it evolutionary, not revolutionary.   I am seeing maybe 20% increases game for game.

So far,  underwhelmed by DX11.  The feature I am really itching to try is EyeFinity.  I have 2 more monitors on order and will see next week, but from what I read,  I may need a second 5870 to really use it.

The gray/rainbow screen crashes are back with 10.3a for me. 10.3 preview was flawless. Reinstalled the preview drivers and it went away. Can't say I recommend these, something seems to have changed for worse.

    10 min furmark 10.3a = gray/rainbow screen crash /w sound loop
    1hr furmark 10.3 preview = stable

How do you uninstall /reinstall the driver? I always use the new driver to uninstall the old driver myself and i never see these grey screens people talk about..

Anyway i did get a chance to run a stock clock Vantage run and the gpu score was 13,910 with just my e5200 .. once they run a reveiw with a better platform then mine then the stock score will be in the 14,000 range for the gpu score which is huge from just drivers as in Nov it was 12,600 range on i7 platform..

The 5850's comes with a gpu slide limit built into CCC as it only allows 775Mhz tops (50Mhz bump) and everyone of them can reach it very fine so the 470GTX being 5-10% faster really means little as the 775Mhz clock will pull it even..

notice how they max out uni engine as high as you can take it and at stock clocks got 40fps average, nvidia left some setting all the way off like anti aliasing and astrophic, those impact the score and fps the most, nvidia reps are hiding the fact that it just cant handle it.

Hmmm I would settle for a driver that would not crash in borderlands but run as smoothly as the 9.10's in everything else.
None of the driver updates mention anything about borderlands.
