196.75 and Precision

Precision is reading my cards at 85c and 105c with no load at all on them. This was at default fan speed. I then set the fans to 65% which is where i normally keep them and i am still around 63c and 66c under no load. I usually top out at those temps ( well sub 70c). Maybe precision is just reading these incorrectly? Not sure but 20c idle temp difference is making me a little concerned.

    Put your hand behind the output for the fans. It is easy to tell if your cards are too hot based on hat.

    Ok so heres the issue, either precsion or the driver is screweing with the fan speeds. Changed the fan speed to 65% in precision and went afk for a few while downloading BFBC2. come back and both fans on both gpus are completely off. Temps @ 124c!!! Immediately kill everything and reboot and the fans start working again just fine. Hopefully neither of my cards are hosed :(

    What is the max safe operating temp on GTX275 sc? Like i said i ran at 65% speed and capped out around 70c but now that i can't play with fan speeds i am wondering if it is safe to run them @ 40% or just reload the old driver.

    I have 3x 275's & haven't had any problems with my fans & infact my idle & gaming temps went down a bit...

    Did you do a full driver cleaning? Uninstall, run driver sweeper in safe mode, then reboot & install new ones?

    that doesnt sound good, revert back to the 196.21 drivers, as you said its what you have changed and found this happening now.

    124 degrees is WAY TOO HOT.

    too  much of that and you will have a dead card.

    My cards actually went down in temperature with this driver too.

    105C is the maximum threshold temperature for nVidia 200 series GPU's before things start to go south, as in possible 'permanent damage'.

    Hmm.. Are you running anything else like RivaTuner Ntune or any other program that can adjust the fan speed? It's not likely your cards reached that temperature. I suspect that some how the thermal temps information in the registry is corrupted. Thermal shutdown is around 105C. The suggestion to: uninstall your drivers, reboot in safe mode, run driver sweeper then re-install, is a good start.

    Only program i was using was precision. I did a reboot to see if the fans would start from a fresh boot and they did, I was then able to change the speeds in presicion again. Still having an issue thouugh when returning from sleep state. Fans will rev up to maybe 90-100% (sounds like a tornado in my case) so i then have to readjust speeds in precision. I did the correct install using driver sweeper etc but i am going to try to redownload and reinstall just to be safe. Thanks for all the advice/info, much appreciated!
     
    *edit* I tested the cards after the 124c reading playing some BFBC2 for awhile and everything ran silky smooth. 60-70fps on high settings so my cards seem to be unharmed :)

    I've been having similiar problem with these drivers, they install fine and seem to work excellent, however, after bringing my system out of sleep mode,  I can hear my fans rotate up and then die out, Precision indicate my fan speed at "0" and my temps naturally start to increase. I removed these drivers and did a fresh install using Driver Sweeper and everything returns to normal until the system is brought out of sleep mode.  I had the same problem on my second system which is running Win7/64 and a 8800/512, I reinstalled 196.21 and everything works perfectly on both systems, precision, fan speeds and temps are normal.

    nvidia removed these drivers of their sites their prone to fry your card becose their screving with fans voltage somehow its all over net 196.75 killing cards

    This morning I woke up, and brought my PC out of sleep.  SON of A!!!!  295 was powered up with ZERO Fan speed.  I'm thankful I had precision installed, and I constantly look at it haha.
