PCI-E 3.0 x16 @x8 1.1 when i do a render test it jumps to @x8 3.0 but not x16
i'm really stumped as to why any help please

You may want to do a bit of research and see which slots deliver PCIe-3.0 x16 on your particular motherboard.

    Welcome to the EVGA forums

You board has (3) x16 slots
As long as the Videocard is in the Primary (top slot) and you dont have anything in the other PCIE x16 slots it should be running correctly.

Are you using the latest GPUz (That would be version 0.7.2)

Since there is already a thread here I was wondering if you guy could help me out too. GPU-z is saying that my 780 is running at PCI 2.0 x16. According to the specs on my motherboard it should be running at 3.0. I have it in the right slot and attempted to edit the registry with adding the Dword 4 value. I hit the render and it still says 2.0 x16.

Afaik, your board, card and cpu all have to support 3.0. Your board and your card do; your cpu does not.

ok so the i5 does not support 3.0? I thought it did. It also is not giving me the option in the BIOS to change the PCI to Gen3, which I'm pretty sure is 3.0. The only options are auto/Gen1/Gen2

It's certainly not worth upgrading over. The only benefit would be a few more fps on benchmarks... and yours are already higher than most guys anyway... and for games, the gain would be so low it wouldn't be noticeable at all.

I had considered it myself, but then I read the 2.0 vs 3.0 review on HardOCP and decided it just wasn't worth it. Going to Ivy Bridge we might end up with cpus that don't overclock as well; with Haswell the chances of getting a bad clocker are even higher. In a lot of games today (crap ports) clock speed is king. These Sandy Bridge cpus sure did turn out to be quite the bang for the buck as they're still on par with Haswell... which makes me smile.

If anything, I'm going to see if I can just go up a few more MHz on the core. It's been 3 years since I've tinkered with it, but since I'm only running 0.02 volts over stock of 1.26 and am at 4.5GHz, I have little doubt that there's still a lot of headroom left. It's not unreasonable to expect close to 5GHz.

intel messed up with sandybridge it was way to fast for the time and it show's now  my 3770k is
at 1.116v @4.4ghz so i still have lot's of headroom yet aswell as oc genie put's 1.235v and only gives me 4.2ghz lol
when u was talking about benchmarks was u talking about mine as im still stumped

ya i think im gna oc mine a little  higher too. I just want to make sure Im getting the full full potential out of all my components. Are fluctuating GPU usages common with this card? I know my 570 was constantly pinned a 99% but this 780 with fluctuate depending on the game and only sometimes be at 99%.

As long as your frame rate is consistent the card is just using what it needs to.

I go from 1137 down to 800 something on certain places in Planetside2 with no fps loss, and in Tribes Ascend it goes from 967 down to 600 something, also no fps loss; in Tribes I have a solid 122fps at all times... so fluctuation isn't a concern, it all depends on the game. BF3, from what little I've monitored so far, stays at 1137.

What drivers are you using? I don't think I've ever seen clocks just stay constant unless I'm benchmarking, or, as I said, what little I saw of BF3. 320.11, 320.18, 320.39, 320.49 (both), 325.71 and now 326.01 all clocked up and down dependent on need. Card at default.

im using 320.49...Even in BF3 my clock is constant and my GPU usage is jumping all all around from 70% to 90 to 85 to 76 to 98..its all over the place. Is this not suppose to happen? I always thought a constant 99% GPU usage was a target.

No matter how much I try, my competitive nature has thus far prevented me from being able to focus on any other significant detail aside from clock speed... lol, it's a miracle I've managed to gather even that. It probably helps that it's written large in Precision. However, I'll start trying to notice gpu usage as well. I will give up a death or two for this very valuable information. I won't like it, but I'll do it!
