That is great news. I am glad to see that more Kepler optimized applications compiled with CUDA 4.2 are becoming available to the distributed computing community.

I've been crunching using this app for a couple of days.
Clock for clock, the CUDA 4.2 app is 40-50% faster than the old 3.1 app .

The efficiency increases are not limited to Kepler either. I'm running a Fermi(560ti) card, so the speed is just from CUDA 4.2 code optimization. It's an amazing result.  The Kepler cards really fly using this App.

Makes me quite excited to see what the Kepler folding core will eventually do!

I've been running 'em on 4.2 for a few days... nice.  Takes 'em a while though.  Got one running now with an 8 hour est. completion time.  Still, given what I've seen that's one heck of an improvement.

Simply amazing.  That means clock for clock, 40 - 50% more science is being done.

I just added GPUGRID in the BOINC Manager... First job for me ever, right out of the gate looks to be the new one and running fast. It is predicting under three hours for an 8-12 hour job, and keeps dropping that estimate by the minute...

yep AB. That's CUDA 4.2 task.  Not sure what GPU card you have, but Nathan tasks on my 560 ti run at about 24500 seconds or just under 7 hours.  Should net you 60 900 points if you return it within 24 hours.

<Edit> Just checked your ModsRigs (d@mn nice system there) on a 680 that should be a fair bit less than 7 hours.  The ETA should keep dropping faster than the time elapsed.

I have noticed that running 1 card on GPUGrid only needs 1 cpu core, but running 2 needs 3 free cores.
Even when the CPU isn't loaded fully (2 cards and 2 cores) it seems to take longer to run the workunit than if you had 3 cores free.  That's just my setup though. as always YMMV.

^^^^ Thank you for the info. Here are the results so far...

    • (2) have completed in 4 hours 3 minutes.
    • Each worth 60,900 points
    • They stopped SETI from running on the GPU and moved SETI to four of the CPU cores
    • WCG is now only running on (4) CPU cores
    • SETI is running on the other (4) CPU cores.

SETI and GPUGrid don't play nice together for some reason.  It's popped up a couple of times on the GPUGRid forums, so far so explanation has been found. Seems like GPUGrid has a higher priority to the GPU than Seti does.  It could be that because Seti has both GPU and CPU tasks and GPUGrid is just GPU, then the GPUGrid tasks take priority.  That's what it seems like but no confirmation of that can be found anywhere.

If you want to run Seti GPU tasks, you'll have to pause GPUGrid while you do.

Those are some pretty good times! you're going to love your PPD if you keep that up.

Ok folks.. This GPUGRID stuff is cranking it with the 4.2!!!!

Anyone out there using a 670 or 580 with this? I am now wanting to get two more GPU's to dedicate to this and want to compare production scores...

Just got an 86,850 point unit completed!!!

BTW... We have just taken 67th place in the world with GPUGRID... Could you imagine the level we could reach with these Keplers and  the 4.2 with those not getting any units with F@H right now!!

Small update... 4.2 rocks... I have tripled my lifetime production in Chrunching in a week and a half of time!

Great time to take advantage of this before it is common knowledge...

Welcome! These 680 cards run great via GPUGrid and especially now that there is a CUDA 4.2 application.

There are two GPU's running this right now: GTX670FTW (@1254 MHz) and GTX570 (@775 MHz).

Unfortunately, I neglected to update drivers on the 570 rig, so its first WU is CUDA3.1 (still crunching ).  That same machine has a GT430, but it failed with "Error while computing".  Ouch.  Suspended for bad behavior.

The 670 ran like a champ on CUDA4.2, here are my UPDATED results:

One result from the 570 on CUDA3.1 so far, running another today.  Will switch to CUDA4.2 tonight after a driver update.

New results posted above... so far the 670 looks to be ~30% faster than a 570 in CUDA4.2

I just updated my drivers and am running GPUGRID on a 460 and a 560ti. Let's see how it goes.

I run my 560ti @900.  It completes the long 'Long' tasks (named Paola) in 33,400 seconds or about 9.5 hours.

I haven't run my 460 for a  couple of weeks, but IIRC it is about 15 hours for a long task @ 880.

How much Vram does your 460 have?
There are some long tasks that use around 1 Gb, so if you have a 768Mb model you may find it runs a bit slow.

I have a 1GB card (PNY) stock 675 clock that seems to run well at 800.
I pulled the 460 off GPUGRID and went back to Collatz for a while with it.
You are right on with the completion times. Thanks Simba123!

Just an FYI... I started GPUGrid back up late yesterday. Seems some new high scoring units are hitting the GPU's. They take 10+ hours and worth 100k...
