So, I have an X58 that I have had for a few years, I just got a new HD6970 video card and the bios isn't detecting it. The computer will POST, and I can hear the windows sounds just no video at all....If I put my old GTX295 back in it works just fine so I'm really lost. Help please!

Well what we know is if it works with the 295 then you know the board, and the slot is good. if your using the same monitor and screen , they you know that is good, this leaves your card and/or it's connection, or drivers; that could be bad. Does the card work in another board, Can you get it to work anywhere?

The Computer works just fine with the 295 with the same monitor and everything. At first I thought I got a bad card but, I returned it and still the same result. Short and sweet, Yes everything works with old card, new card....not so much, but I did already return one today..
Do these boards not like ATI Cards?

From what I have found your AMD card should use 16% less power than your 295 http://www.hwcompare.com/6340/geforce-gtx-295-vs-radeon-hd-6970/ the ability to Run the ATI cards and the nvidia cards is chipset dependent, so EVGA had no say here, they advertise Nvidia more because they are a Nvidia partner, but There should be no hardware restrictions when it comes to running the ATI card, Make sure you use drive sweeper and wipe the Nvidia drivers to prevent any conflicts.

I will get a sweaper and make sure, is there some settign int eh bios I might be missing, seems strange that I can get the post and everythign works just not video...So Lost about to build a new computer because of this...

What board? I have the E770 and run a 6990x16 a 6970x16 in trifire. Works great. Does your board have an NF200 chip? Pull the sound card if you have one. Install the 295 back, boot, uninstall the Nvidia drivers then run driver sweeper then clean the registry with CCleaner. Power off, install the 6970 in different PCIe slots. Try reseting the BIOS. Check the PCIe settings within the BIOS.

I have th eolder E758-A1 version, And I tried putting the old card back in and resetting everythign then cleaning again. I have also changed everythign in the bios. The Computer will post with the new card in I just can't seem to get any video out of it...

How many video ports on your new card? Have you tried all of them? Seen a few cases where BIOS/Win was defaulting to the unused output port.

Sorry, work sent me out of town yesturday......I came up with a fix!! Its called going back to the store and getting a GTX 570 that is working amazing! I guess my system just doesn't like ATI stuff, in hindsight I think was rigth and one of the stupid micro display ports was active. Either way thanks for all the help and atleast I'm sticking with EVGA video cards.
