Ugh, misleading article is misleading.  If you ALREADY have verizon AND you ALREADY have a smartphone with a smartphone data plan, you keep your current unlimited for $30 pricing and this applies even if/when you upgrade to a new phone whether it's 3g or 4g.  If you are a current customer and you upgrade to a smartphone or join Verizon as a new customer and get a smartphone that's when you'll see the new data plan type charges.  The one final possibility is if you are a current customer, already have a smartphone, but ADD a second or more lines to your account that are smartphones, the new lines and ONLY the new lines will get the new pricing.

doubtful as it is still cheaper to stick to purely a cellphone for calls (ignoring data stuff thats creme filling)

Deal is, I believe, is that the new iphone os 5 will have wifi texting and this cuts into the profits of the SMS sales for text messaging.   I bet they want to recoop some of the losses that are bound to happen.  I have ATT ulimited data until 8-2012 but after that, unless I change the plan, I should be able to keep it.

The trick here is to cancel, If enough customers can show their displeasure, by spending their cash elsewhere, the unlimited plans will come back. for now a $20 trackphone and a $16 a month calling plan that covers both me, and my wives $20 phone, is good enough for me. If the big boys want my cash, they will offer something competitive, If not, I'll let you rich folks support them. I would rather spend my cash on a SSD, or new processor. I would rather people e-mail than call anyway.

In the rest of they world text messaging is FREE. I costs the provider next to nothing for us to send/receive SMS messages yet they charge us out the ass for them here in America.

They need to break up all the big cell phone, cable and internet companies. That is the only way consumers will win. Look at other countries, they have all kinds of providers to choose from.

The glory of capitalism. If you don't like it, go with sprint. As soon as this contract is over sprint is the only one left with unlimited, so when I start getting charged im there

Users currently on an unlimited plan are supposed to have their unlimited grandfathered in once Verizon starts the tiered data. There is no distinction between 3G and 4G in Verizon's system, so people should be able to upgrade to a 4G phone if they want while keeping unlimited. This is the only thing that is even keeping me on Verizon.

Re:No more unlimited wireless for Verizon. Budgeting for wireless data on Verizon's new pl 2011/07/06 22:26:51 (permalink)
Well i have been with sprint for over 10 years and really they are the only one that is willing to help out there customers. Now that i have been with them for 10 years i can upgrade my phone to any phone every year. So i will be getting the next best HTC phone out there when it comes out next year.

Just went from the Evo 4g to the Evo 3d and i am loving it.

The plans they offer is only going to make other come over. The great thing about the others out there is that sprint is still sitting in 3rd in the market and they offer more. So when sprint gets to 1st if that ever happens then i might have to look at the other phone company. Becasue then they will try what ATT and big red is doing now.

I still don't understand why people have not switched over to a better plan with sprint faster. But some people like to toss money in the trash. I only pay 52 bucks for what i have with my discount.

I would say All go to Sprint

Does T-Mobile no longer offer unlimited? I know I still have mine, and I better have it once AT&T takes over too or I'll be quite ticked. Monopolization ftl when it comes to this crap. I agree that everything needs to be broken up to allow more competition and better services and prices for us consumers. The US may be capitalist but that doesn't mean we can't stop/break-up monopolies. I just hope it happens soon so we can stop bending over to all these profit machines they call service providers.

T-Mobile offers unlimited but you get throttled once you go over a certain limit (2GB or 5GB).
