i just got my system up and running for the most part (first system ive put together in 10 years) been battling a few other issiues but finally i got windows and started installing my video card drivers.

along with that i noticed the EVGA precision tool so i installed that as well, not really knowing what im doing i didnt want to mess (nor did i) mess with the settings however after installation i tried to run the ff 14 benchmark, upon  running it my pc speaker started beeping at me and the benchmark shut down.

after that it started doing it the second i loged into windows, not at the log in screen (windows 7 also mine video card is a SC so it was already some what overclocked anyways) so i uninstalled the tool but the problem persisted so i uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled, which for the time stoped the problem.

after updating to the latest drivers i tried to run the bench mark again second i did started getting the pc speaker again...

before i continue i might mention that i sucessfully ran the benchmark a few times before i had opened up the EVGA tool

now im trying my cards 1 at a time, so far not a single one has been able to run the benchmark by itself rather it crashes before finishing but no pc speaker, and one of them gives me the BSOD

First see if your PSU is compatible here:
http://www.slizone.com/ob../slizone_build_psu.html

if it's 3-way sli compatible then please list your other components

Also what driver version are you using. Get the latest ones straight from nvidia not what came on the cd. then use this guide to remove the audio drivers on the cards unless your going to do audio over hdmi
http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=531113
They can cause driver conflicts with the boards onboard audio

ya know... i dont see my power supply on that list, least the specific model listed.

you mean all of them or just like my mother board and cpu? oh well moot question since im about to list it all then. and

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit

power supply: Antec TPQ-1200 1200W
mother board: EVGA E760 CLASSIFIED
RAM: Patriot Viper II Sector 7, (6 x 4gb)
CPU: Intel Core i7-950
Video Card: EVGA 015-P3-1482-AR GeForce GTX 480 (Fermi) SuperClocked FTW 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 (x3)

i have downoladed the latest driver said as much in OP, and im using my HD tv as my monitor so the audio is desired.

Are you overclocked right now at all? (since you just built im assuming no but it never hurts to ask) Try it with only 3 sticks of ram in. Ive read that if you fill all the slots it can affect the IMC. Is the psu the antec quatro or whatever. If so I have the same one and it should handle 3 480's just fine. You said you were having other issues so why dont you tell us what they were in case they have something to do w it

Re:480 gtx 3 way sli help 2010/09/16 19:17:24 (permalink)
i was having an issiue with AHCI, when i was trying to install windows it would acknowlage my SSD as present but not as a bootable drive, think it had something to do with the AHCI controler or something, one of my guild mates gave me a link to a microsoft fix that worked so im running AHCI now (and some what of a noticble diff too)

i'd assume im not any more overclocked then how it came (these are the SC varient so they are already some what overclocked) as i never messed with the options however if it did change from my orginal settings perhaps? that program is uninstalled atm and prior to doing so i ensured all settings were at thier lowest value.

the other problem im having is im trying to set up my 2 300gig 10k rpm westerndigital's in raid but the controler doesnt have drivers, and i dont have a thumb drive even though i have the drivers, cant install em from windows either.

also in reguards to the ram, i sucessfully ran the benchmark before without a problem, issiue started when i installed and ran the evga tool, one thing i can say is that before i installed it i probably wasnt running 3 way sli, one setting that i did mess with was i syced my gpu's through it (which i would assume activates 3 way no?)

No precisions sync only has it so if you change the fan or shaders or whatever on one card it makes the changes to all the cards in the system. To enable 3 way sli you need to enter the nvidia control panel and select maximize 3d performance or something like that. I dont think ive ever heard of precision messing something up unless you accidentally increased the shader or memory clocks too high (eleet on the other hand has supposedly screwed a lot up). You might want to look in the precision section on the forum and see if anyone else had the issue. Also I know this is just beating around the bush but you never know but did you update your chipset driver and or bios.

Try using MSI Afterburner. Your clocks on the cards should be 725mhz core 1450mhz shader and 1900mhz memory that is stock. Also in Afterburner, in settings area monitor voltage for each card. I would guess they should be in the range of 1000mv-1050mv. These are all stock settings. Voltages can be different that is normal. Let us now what you find...

When you reinstalled the driver and it fixed your computer how long did it last? Are you able to do any other benchmarks? Also could you get the blue screen code for us. That might point us towards your problem.

Make sure your CPU cooler is mounted properly. If it's overheating, that will cause the PC speaker to beep and the system to crash. You might have a bad memory chip too. Try running with one stick for now until you get the problem figured out.

Are you trying to run the drives in RAID mode on the Intel controller? If you are you will need to first turn it on in BIOS. However, since the OS is already installed, if you switch modes the SSD won't boot anymore. There are workarounds, but, since it's a new install, I suggest just reloading Windows in RAID mode. The SSD will run in AHCI and the two rapters will run in RAID. TRIM works with the latest Intel Rapid Storage drivers.

my western digital's and my kingston SSD are on seperate controlers, ive got my kingston SSD and my dvd/blu ray on AHCI and my 2 western's are in raide, and ive set them up in the (what do you call it...) seperate section of the bios? just when i get to windows it has a problem with the controler i think it was, originally was posting from they system in question but atm its powered down.

also what's trim?

Trim is a utility for ssd's. ssd's tend to slow down over time when theyre getting near completely full or when theyve had stuff written to and deleted a bunch of times. I think it has something to do with the master boot record being a bit flawed. Trim makes it so that they dont slow down over time by helping the mbr. Unfortunately not all ssd's come with trim support and for some reason if ssd's are raided trim cant be installed either

This is a list of free programs that help check the stability of your computer and its parts. I suggest you run memtest86+ to see if you have a bad stick. Also try running just 3 sticks and see if it helps. I hadnt noticed till now that you are running 24gb of ram. Does the bios and windows see all 24gb of ram or only 16?
Post number 2 in this thread might help you out some
http://forums.evga.com...m=548771&high=24gb
and this is stickied in the x58 section to help if its a ram issue
http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=479626

After you said that switching the ram sticks around helped I have a suspicion that it might be the ram or the imc

Re:480 gtx 3 way sli help 2010/09/17 16:09:46 (permalink)
about that, originally i did have 24 gb, then i had to take one out to get at something, when i put it back in it would seem it was slightly loose? (though it looked and felt fully seated when i took it out) reseating it helped me regain the missing memory, if i hadnt gone in and messed with the bios some more i wouldn't have noticed the drop in value.

i may have booted it up several times with the loose stick, also how do i setup just 3 sticks of ram? thought they were meant to operate in pairs?

also whats an imc? also im still having trouble but now it seems im not getting BSOD however the 14 benchmark is still crashing.
also how can i use that tool to determine the status of my ram, rather will it allow me to analyze each stick or will i have to swap em 1 by 1 and try to figure it out from there?

also i can run with just 1 stick too right?

The x58's are tri channel so they run ram in sets of 3. Imc is the memory controller built into the I7. Populating all 6 slots tends to strain the imc so a bump in voltage might be necessary. You can run just a single stick and when debugging its recommended to unplug all non essential peripherals and only have a single stick of ram in. Memtest can run to test your whole group of ram but if there are errors I believe you will need to test each stick individually to find the bad one. As for populating with only 3 sticks of ram you might need to refer to the user manual. Im looking for a guide right now that would help you. Normally the dimm slots are 2 different colors so I believe you would just put 3 sticks in the same color slots. After you memtest and populate 3 slots (with good ram) try running prime95 for 20 min or pcmarkvantage just to put some stress on the computer. After that try the ff14 bench again

here is a good guide explaining memory from linuxrouter (he does a lot of very good guides here on evga)

Lol dont go breaking it. I know its very frustrating. When I first installed my 470s I went from a 26 second boot time to a 45 min boot time. Eventually I fixed it with help from the people on this forum and now it runs great. Were you able to run memtest or change out the ram? Can you post what speed your ram is rated for and what its running at or link to the info where you got them. Did you get them as 6 individual sticks, 3 dual channel kits or 2 tri channel kits?

No running them in improper sets wont damage them. When they come in kits theyre more expensive than the same amount of individual sticks because they are supposedly tested to work together better than individuals. And yes you did provide the type of ram earlier I just wasnt sure the kit so thats why I asked for it. Are you able to run vantage or prime95 without it crashing or is it still?
