I’ve been trying to get a GPU for gaming for 2 months and I can’t find any kind of decent deal that doesn’t break the bank. Miners suck :(

We'll, there was a 10% drop in Bitcoin price yesterday due to US announcements on regulation/registration and hacks so there's a ray of hope.

Maybe they are wishing gaming would die so they could get cards to mine with at a decent price? I'm sure they can't be happy with the high price of video cards because of all the gamers buying up the video cards?

Like I said in the 1080ti stock thread...you probably won't see any improvements until at least Q3 of this year. That's my educated guess based on all of the PC news feedback I've read

Specs: AMD 1920X Threadripper, Samsung SM961 M.2, 64GB Corsair DDR4 memory (half kit of CMD128GX4M8B2800C14),  ASRock X399 Taichi Motherboard

I wonder if folders and crunchers wish gaming and mining would slow down so they can get cards to work on tasks and workunits while trying to save peoples lives with  cures for cancer, aids, ebola, alzheimers and other diseases.

What? Video cards are being used to fold and crunch? Don't let the gamers know about this, they may start demanding folding and crunching die.

Yup we do, and EVGA 100% stands behind folding and crunching.
Gamers need to get off their high horse and accept their share of the blame for this mess.
But think about it, people are whining they an not buy video cards costing hundreds of dollars even up to a thousand dollars, while so many people in the world can not afford to eat dinner tonight.
    1st world problems.

I fear 1000 dollars and over will become the new "baseline" for flagship Nvidia cards. Its really tough to see the 60s and 70s cards costing more than the 80's did just a few years back.

It's frustrating.  My 960 just started to crap out and I was looking to buy something middle-of-the-road, but this is all craziness.  Seems like I'll have to wait a couple years to buy my next good one.

Or you can buy through the EVGA store and if no stock get notified; or head to a retail store and request in store ? - EVGA store would be the best bet to not pay well over 1k+ for your card.

I have the notifications set up, but I won't hold my breath because it seems stock will disappear pretty quickly when it fills.

Makes me think of Marty Mcfly and that sports almanac from Back To The Future 2. I saw no signs that Nvidia cards would go up to such an astronomical price increase.

Since I started putting together my build I've noticed prices going down, are they where they should be hell no, but they are better. I'm seeing 680-899 1080's which all were 1000+ a couple months ago. Anytime attention is brought to something that has been "a hidden or cult secret" gaming in this sense change is always hard and it doesn't help when it affects the wallet but things always balance out in time.

Breath..Think..React.... Do that in reverse equals regret..

Most of us miners are ALSO gamers - and some of us have also been Folders and Crunchers, though not a lot of us.

Be happy - Nvidia seems to have gotten some Pascal production out of TSMC in the last few weeks, and out to the "partners" to turn into cards - and pricing seems to be starting to drop a bit on the Nvidia side, though RAM shortage pricing limits how low it can go.
On the AMD side, availability started growing a LOT about 3 weeks back, as Ethereum total network hashrate went flat then even started dropping a hair indicating demand has almost died from miners (A MUCH bigger issue on AMD where potentially as high as HALF of their GPU sales were to miners over the last year or so, while Nvida hasn't even seen 10% of their cards sold to miners in that same timeframe).

Also keep in mind that Nvidia cards never got as high as DOUBLE THEIR MSRP except from some of the worst of the gougers - AMD cards have ROUTINELY been there since last spring, and for a brief time hit *3 TIMES* MSRP late last spring in many cases.

I am no longer the friendly FAH competition - thank Vorsholk and his ABUSE of his Curecoin developer position for that.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Ethereum prices are really bad, and that is what most miners are mining. The ROI for a gpu is way longer than a year now so unless the price of the coin goes back up, I think we will see a price drop of cards. Maybe

ROI at current pricing on a RX 570 is close to a year - perhaps a bit longer but NOT a lot longer.
Still not the 2-3 months the "Johnnie come lately" types got spoiled by for most of the last year, and profitability has dropped enough that you can't mine with 25 cent / KWH power any more and expect to do much better than break-even - might not even be able TO break-even at that power cost level any more.

I think seeing Amazon pulling the 1080 cards because of a lot of returns really says something about mining. With the drop in Bitcoin to about 1/3 of what it was in November and Ethereum being about 1/3 of it's January value the return on investment isn't as good. I am not sure that we will be seeing people who bought cards in hopes of flipping them making a profit as I personally could see a rise in prices but don't think we a skyrocket like we did last fall.

The other scary thing for digital currency is as the stock market has gone into a correction people are not investing in digital money like they would in gold. Some would say that is a very bad sign that means people don't see the digital currency being valuable if the economy slows.

Don't care. Gamers were using these cards long before mining came along.

I think seeing Amazon pulling the 1080 cards because of a lot of returns really says something about mining.

The 1080 is NOT a GPU most miners use or even think about using, due to it's VERY poor performance on Ethash coins like Ethereum (it has LOWER hashrate than the 1070 and costs quite a bit more) and it's "perception" of being inferior on algorithms that ARE Nvidia-centric even where it is comparable on hash/$ and hash/watt with other Nvidia cards.

If they were going to "pull a card" due to mining returns, it would be AMD 570/580 models, followed a LONG way back by Nvidia 1060 and 1070 models.

Also, Amazon ITSELF doesn't sell GPUs - all of the GPUs I've EVER seen on Amazon were sold by third party vendors.

If Amazon isn't a direct seller (along with 3rd party sellers) of GPU's, they do a very good job at hiding it.  I believe you can purchase GPU's from Amazon as the seller/shipper as well as 3rd party.

"Fulfilled by Amazon" is a program for 3'd party sellers - I've USED it in the past as a 3'd party seller.

On the other hand, I went though ALL of the 1080 listings they have right now - and did find ONE that stated "sold and shipped by Amazon", so it looks like they got into the market sometime in the last couple years when I haven't been paying them much attention.
It's the FIRST such listing I've ever seen from them on a GPU - but it does make you correct

I am no longer the friendly FAH competition - thank Vorsholk and his ABUSE of his Curecoin developer position for that.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.
