I'm still real happy with what I have and still feel like I haven't taken advantage of what my hardware has to offer. I might just upgrade my current CPU and sit for a little even though I'm getting the bug. I still have to get stable again before I think about it I'm just getting back to work.

I want to build again but always end up on the tail end and end up behind again in a few weeks.

I won't be.  My PC is only used for basic tasks and gaming, so my i5 760 @ 4.2 GHz is plenty for my needs.  I don't plan to upgrade until 22nm CPUs are on that platform (or its replacement).  The reason I won't be going with Z77 instead is because I might be going with multiple GPUs again (best single chip Kepler cards).

Not upgrading yet... I plan to wait to see how Ivy bridge is looking.  Might upgrade then.  Meanwhile, I'm good to go for a bit with the current rig.

Nope.

For the cost of the motherboard and 3960K, I'd rather build 2 (almost 3) 2600K machines

My computer finds cures for diseases and searches for aliens when I'm not gaming...what does yours do?

Meh. I wish my upgrade path were more obvious. I'm still running the original X58 Classified, i7-965, and quad-SLI GTX 295s that I got in early '09. I don't want to get new GTX 580s with Kepler and/or the AMD 7000 series right around the corner, and if I really wanted 6 cores I could save myself lots of trouble by going with a Gulftown CPU. I'll probably just wait until the new GPUs come out then upgrade my whole system.

Rig 1:
Intel Core i7-965 @ 3.73GHz (28X multi, stock voltage)
EVGA X58 Classified motherboard with NF200
2x EVGA GTX 295+
1x EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 (PhysX)
3x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3 @ 1600MHz, 6-7-6-18
Corsair HX1000W PSU
Thermaltake Toughpower Power Express 450W VGA PSU
Thermalright TRUE Black 120 with push/pull fans
Thermaltake Armor+ full tower case

Rig 2:
Intel C2Q Q9650 @ 3.6GHz (400x9, stock voltage)
EVGA nForce 780i MB
3x EVGA GTX 260 SSC
2x2GB OCZ SLI-Ready PC6400 DDR2 RAM
Corsair HX1000W PSU
Arctic Freezer 7 Pro
Cooler Master CM690 NVIDIA Edition case

I have gotten too old to become someone's lab rat anymore. Besides I want to know if I'll get better OC's than my day in and day out 5.1 on my Intel before I  commit all that cash so soon after this build.

Picked up my Asus IV BF3 edition board off new egg at $469.99 [:
2 Day shipping.

So i technically waited a full day.

Read the reviews, and for gaming its similar to 26/2700K chips but for rendering it should save me a great amount of time :D

Now I just have to wait for the 3930K to drop under $600 to pick one up.

Afterburner

No I will not. I have done all my day one buys for my lifetime (Subject to week moments ) and plan to wait till March/April so that I can build an entirely new system and the first wave "Issues" have been resolved.

There are to many "New" things going on in the CPU's and MOBO's and GPU's to feel comfortable enough to plop all that new tech together right away... Seems to me the second wave is the one I should get more often than not...

Pretty much what I'm going to do AB.
