Considering it hasn't even been a day since Jacob said they were looking into it, and this thread has been around for 5 weeks. I'd say we will be waiting at least 2-3 weeks before we hear about something.
It wouldn't surprise me if we had to wait longer though.

Any news yet JacobF?

What we are talking about is either have a more direct shipment to the resellers/distributors in Australia, which takes negotiation, or opening a direct shipment option to EVGA users via an EVGA online webstore, which takes programing.

Jacob stays that there will be news, but you have to be patient.  Its not going to be an easy change for EVGA to serve our mates down under.

While I am unsure why, the price difference between the 670's in the US and Aus is a bit closer than the 680's are.
For EVGA, it is a $100 difference rather than a $200 variance like the 680's.
Granted we can still save around $50 if we import from the states, but this is a better than before.
Let's hope the 680's come closer in line with pricing.

There's a real easy solution for EVGA and that's to ship direct to AU themselves so I don't know what the big deal is for them. With the sales they would make shipping via fedex would be as little as $50 and you get the item within two to three days.

Returns can be done in exactly the same way, they send you out a new card with a fedex bag and con note, you drop it off at the fedex location. They don't even have to operate here in Australia at all, the shops simply don't stock their products so it's not a loss to them in that respect.

I know this works as I have spent a crap tonne (100k+) on car parts from the USA, all shipped via fedex and the rates were cheap, on the odd occasion that something did stuff up, following the procedure above, it was easily returned and the company didn't even pay fedex Australia rates it was based on their American rates!

Now try and warranty an EVGA card here in Australia, I all but gave up on my 570 HD/SC and it's simply sitting there in its static bag and that's with a "directors" help. I could obviously take the matter further given it was purchased in Australia but why should I have to?

I actually did try and and contact couple of reps here but their inbox were full and also sent an email to to EVGA Taiwan asking if they could expedite this a little sooner but just didn't work. The guys over at TW were all confused and asked me to send it directly to them, which is way too expensive! Anyways, with these chaos all around my EVIL mind did play a trick on me and I have almost built my Z77 system . Just awaiting for the motherboard to come!

@mudvari that's ridiculous! You should of contacted EVGA directly to see if there was anything they can do for you.

Thanks mudvari

I think a ribbon is well deserved in this case.  Im going to fight hard to win EVGA over for all Aussies.

EVGA has a market here, they just have to realise that we dont want to be ripped off.  We want to buy EVGA products but we are not going to pay through the nose for them.

Seeing how even our best online stores are charging over $200+ more for the same products (680) and the fact that the Australian dollar has been higher then the US dollar for so long and yet we are still paying more, leaves a lot to be desired.

And dont even get me started on our 690 prices - $1600 for a $1000 card, stop trying to rip us off Australian stores.

Even with $50 postage, it shouldnt raise the price by more then $100 and that allowing for a $75 markup after postage.

If we could buy direct from EVGA, We would be happy and EVGA would get way more sales.  It may seem like Australia doesnt have a big demand for EVGA products but Aussies would buy EVGA more if we knew we were not getting ripped off price wise.

Re:"Official" petition for Direct Sales to Australia, Step up Program and EVGA Bucks. 2012/05/12 19:15:58 (permalink)
Lets take a stock GTX 680 for example. Cost price on this card should not be $499 for Australian distributors.
I believe the problem lies in the fact that in the US, EVGA is the only distributor for their cards, so Newegg/NCIX/Tiger/etc all buy from EVGA.
Whereas in Aus, a separate distributor buys from EVGA, and then PCCG/CLP/etc buy from the Aussie distributor who is bringing up prices due to handling.

After quite a bit of searching, it seems like there are two distributors in Aus for EVGA (places where PCCG/MSY/itsdirect/CPL/etc buy their stock from).
Ingram Micro & MMT

Now working in retail, products have anywhere from 70% - 7% margin with 25% being the average.

Please note the below is *not* based on fact.

Lets say that in the US EVGA sell the GTX 680 to resellers for $399 giving Newegg/NCIX/Tiger/etc around a 23% profit margin after shipping.
EVGA would sell the same card to Ingram and MMT for the same price, because there is no reason for them not to. EVGA are making the same amount off the card, but MMT & Ingram would be making a bit less due to higher shipping costs.
In a worst case senario, (if MMT & Ingram have a crappy deal on their shipping) it costs them $50 per card shipped to Aus.
Now MMT & Ingrams cost price on the card is $549.
As these companies are in the buisnees of making money, they then sell the product onto MSY/CPL/etc for a profit. Lets say they decide the want a 15% cut to make it worthwhile which brings the cost price up to $631.
At this point, retailers would only be making around $55-$65 when selling the card at $699 which represents roughly a 9% profit margin.

I hope this has shed some light on the subject, even if it is all hypothetical.

The one card per address thing just has to do with limited availability.  Once the production is in full swing and there is sufficient back inventory, then this should be lifted.

I signed up just to express my support for this, absolutley dying to get my hands on an EVGA GTX 690!

Another thing lads, if I were to somehow get my hands on a 690 from the states, it would work just the same as aussie stock wouldn't it? (i.e slot straight in without any special considerations). Sorry, I've never purchased pc hardware from outside of Australia before.

Hey

There is away to solve the issue in Australia, though for it to happen would take a lot of will power by many consumers and until then it will never be resolved.

The problem is with the consumer not the seller (the seller just takes advantage of the situation - and why wouldn't they), we are silly enough to continue paying ridiculously overpriced markups and will continue too because we impulse buy and really just can't wait till the prices drop.
If we want to bring prices down quicker, the consumer (I mean majority here) just need to stop buying at launch time of new products and just wait a a few weeks to a month and the market will be forced to drop. Why because the retailers will have excess stock and will have to drop their prices to make sales.
Its basic economics of Supply and Demand, The reason it takes months for prices to drop is due to low supply and high demand. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot by continuing to purchase at premium price.

Anyway just my 2cents.

I signed up last month btw as I want the HYDRO COPPERs - please send to Australia pretty please.

It's interesting that in the US there is a $40 price gap between the GTX 670 and the GTX 670 FTW.
Aus? $30 difference.

The thing is though, that it's not just eVga products that are over-priced here.  Log into any etailer based in Australia and you will see that all Graphics cards, most PSU's and motherboards are significantly over-priced compared to USA pricing.  Even accounting for "shipping" costs there is no reason other than price-gauging to justify the prices we pay.

If one manufacturer starts offering their products at a competitive rate, and advertises reasonably well, they would
A) make a killing on sales assuming they have a proper inventory
B) gain great exposure in the marketplace
C) force other manufacturers to follow.

Australia isn't the biggest country population wise, and with the distances products need to be sent, we will almost always end up paying more, but 50% more is just beyond the joke.

Glad that Jacob has said that something may be happening in the future.  I imagine it will take a while, depending on what supply contracts they have with current importers, getting a direct sales license, and all the other beaureactric hoops they would have to jump through.

However, it is awesome that they have listened and are doing something.

+1 eVga
