putting non OS HDD in new build?

I'm building a new system and would like to move my storage drive to the new system. I'm going from a Z97 MB to a Z270 MB. My OS will be on a m.2 1tb 3.0x4 pcie ssd.  The HDD is a WD Black 1.5tb. I have so much personal crap on it that I don't want to lose and I'm to cheap and lazy to buy another and clone it. Thank you.

    That's fine. Install the HDD after the OS has been installed on the primary drive. It'll work without issues given you didn't install programs onto the HDD prior. They typically 'plant' themselves into system (registry, etc.). Other individual data (without system dependencies) will be accessible as usual.
