Just tried my other CPU (i7-7740x) in my Dark and it just boots straight into bios all the time. I have tried using bios with newest update as well as the other two which have older ones. Just put the 10980xe back in and it works fine  Any ideas guys ? just a thought , could it be the CPU not recognizing my M.2 ?

That CPU (i7-7740X) is shown as compatible with the board right from BIOS v1.00. Try completely decaying CMOS by unplugging the PSU and taking out the CMOS battery as described in the second method here..Then try again.

I have just checked BIOS and no nvme is recognized .
Seems strange that the 10980xe sees it but this does not .
Oh well.

Check page 29 from X299 Dark manual. You can find there the config of PCIE lanes for M.2 when using 7740X.

Sorted ....had to move the nvme with OS to the other slot
