Hello all. I have a msi z690 carbon wifi mobo and DDR5 with Bios V1.20 and have been running XMP without any problems for about a year. I decided to update the bios and with the new bios, XMP doesn't work. I fail to boot and the RAM is not detected with XMP enabled. I tried bios v1.91, 1.80, and 1.70 all of these newer Bios XMP does not work. So I reverted back to v1.20 and XMP works and is stable. Any thoughts what would cause this? I guess I will just stick to the old bios. Thanks.

You say it was bios version 1.20 and you tried to update the bios. What version were you going trying to update to, and have you reported this to MSI to see if it is an issue others are experiencing?

Hi yes I have bios v1.2. I then updated to the newest 1.91, then tried 1.8 and then 1.7, all of these newer bios XMP didn't work. I did open a ticked and posted on the MSI forum but no updated yet.

Doh, for some reason when you said 1.91, I was thinking you were upgrading from 2.1 because I read it wrong.

I’m be thing you could try is manually writing down your XMP timings and clocks, and then manually setting everything instead of using XMP, so that you can mail down which part of CMP is not compatible with the bios.

Okay I will need to research manually messing with the timings. Thank you!

try turning xmp off and adjust ram speed under dram speed like scarlet mentioned, don't update the bios just cause you want the latest only do it if the update is suppose to fix a specific problem.

Good advice, I was just updating because wanted the newest bios. I should just leave it alone... But now I'm just determined to figure out why xmp isn't working with the new bios. When I have more time I will clear the cmos and see if that does anything.
